Development Director

The Fairfield County Community Foundation seeks a multi-talented Development Director to join our Development and Marketing Department. Working closely with the VP of Development and Marketing and the Development Committee, the Development Director will help to execute the overall development strategy for the Foundation. The Development Director is responsible for planned and annual giving, major gift fundraising and other fundraising initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement campaigns to increase annual giving by 25% over the next two years.
• Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects, donors and professional advisors, ensuring personalized outreach and achieving five, six and seven figure gifts.
• Utilize the FIMS database to track and record relationships, build profiles and research donors’ interests and giving patterns.
• Work collaboratively with the Communications team to develop marketing materials which target new and existing donors.
• Participate in planning and delivery of educational sessions for donors, prospects and professional advisors, with a focus on planned giving.
• Partner with other FCCF teams to strategically plan for organizational representation at community events.
• Strengthen and oversee development and marketing systems and operations (e.g., donor communications, acknowledgement systems, database).
• Attend events for prospecting and relationship-building opportunities and follow up as appropriate.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility and success in development; experience with high net worth individuals is helpful.
• Extensive development experience; campaign experience a plus.
• Demonstrated success in identifying and cultivating major donor prospects, and in securing major gifts.
• Proven ability to be persuasive and motivate others.
• Proven experience in fundraising, including face-to-face solicitations.
• Highly developed communication skills including the ability to effectively collaborate with all key stakeholder audiences (internal and external).
• Highly developed relationship-building and listening skills; ability to easily connect and form long-term relationships.
• Excellent organizational, prioritization and follow-through skills and attention to detail.
• Comfortable with public speaking.
• Effective problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.
• General knowledge of investments and the financial services industry; ability to effectively synthesize and translate technical content to donors and prospects.
• Once established in the position, must display working knowledge of various fund types within the Foundation and the ability to effectively apply processes and tools to individual circumstances.
• Management experience.

Technical Qualifications:

• Proficient in the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
• Working knowledge of FIMS, including basic to intermediate reporting capabilities a plus.
• Ability to self-support for basic computer and administrative functions.
