Brady Campaign and Center - Chief Marketing and Communications Officer

The Brady Campaign and Center work to create a safer America for all of us by leading on policy and programs that aim to dramatically reduce the number of gun deaths and injuries in our nation. We believe the passionate and sustained voice of the American public is essential to creating meaningful change in these areas. Our goal is to bring that voice to bear in order to make this the better, safer nation we all want and deserve.

Brady believes in a comprehensive approach to reducing gun violence in our nation, including both policy to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and dangerous people, and public health and safety programs to inspire safer attitudes and behaviors around the 300 million guns in our homes and communities.

Position Summary

Work with the President to develop and implement a strategic marketing and communications program that builds awareness of Brady’s brand, positions, campaigns and programs. Responsibilities include:

Public Relations

  • Online Communications and Website
  • Social Media
  • Advertising/Media Production/PSAs
  • Promotional and Collateral Materials
  • Promotional Events
  • Internal Communications

Oversee external and internal marketing communications plan, budget, process and programs in support of Brady’s strategic plan:

Brand

  • Plan, execute and/or consult on the consistent application and translation of Brady’s brand on all marketing, communications, development and internal communication media and other stakeholders’ points to ensure brand consistency. Maintain and communicate brand identity standards as appropriate with Brady staff and external consultants.
  • Integrate latest polling and research in organizational messaging.
  • Conduct annual brand audit.

Media Relations

  • Work with media on print, broadcast, and online stories.
  • Develop and execute proactive media outreach and pitching.
  • Respond to inquiries from reporters on a strategic and timely basis.
  • Write and distribute press releases for media consideration.
  • Draft materials, speeches, feature stories, etc. to promote the organization’s priorities and projects.
  • Integrate latest polling and research in organizational messaging.

Internal Communications

  • Oversee development of internal communications plan and budget, processes and programs in support of Brady’s strategic plan.
  • Manage staff responsible for maintaining intranet content including newsletter and Brady events calendar.
  • Convene staff meetings and other internal events related to marketing & communications.
  • Work with staff to measure employee understanding of key messages and internal communication effectiveness.

Management

  • Manage department staff to ensure the development of sound and measurable marketing communications goals, tactics and programs. Provide professional training and development opportunities to staff.
  • Work closely with consultants advising the organization.

Reporting

  • Prepare monthly statistical and descriptive reports on marketing communications goals and performance.
  • Prepare summary reports for Board meetings, and present to Board as needed.

Qualifications

  • Seven to 10 years senior level experience in communications, marketing, or public relations.
  • Experience in public policy and political advocacy.
  • Entrepreneurial, pro-active and creative.
  • Experience with strategic planning.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong team player.
  • Personnel management experience.
  • Commitment to the mission of the Brady Campaign.
