Gay Men's Health Crisis - Manager, Institutional Development

Gay Men's Health Crisis [GMHC] is the world's first and leading provider of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and advocacy. The Manager, Institutional Development, supports GMHC in achieving its mission by assuming a leadership role in raising funds from foundations, corporations, government sources and other sources of private institutional support.

Duties & Responsibilities of the Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the Development unit and key program staff in maintaining and strengthening relationships with corporate and foundation funders. Serving as the agency's lead representative for a robust portfolio of these partners and funders.
  • Communicating with program and finance staff to identify areas of funding need and developing institutional funding strategies to meet these needs.
  • Conducting in-depth research and prospecting activities to identify new potential funders to support the agency's general operations and specific programs and services.
  • Writing grant proposals, sponsorship requests, and grant reports for corporate and foundation funders
  • Serving as a liaison between the Institutional Development and the Finance Departments to create proposal and report budgets in a timely and effective manner.
  • Participating in the creation of revenue goals and spending budgets for the Institutional Development Unit and Development Department.
  • Supervising the administration of GMHC's matching gift and employee-designated giving programs.
  • Working with the Director of Institutional Development to develop priorities for the unit's internship program and supervising one intern per year (academic year).

The Manager will work with Program Directors, Managers, and the Finance Department to deliver proposals, proposal budgets, reports, and fiscal reports to funders as necessary. Additionally, this person will supervise the administration of GMHC's matching gift and employee-designated giving programs.

The job requires the Manager to communicate with agency staff to stay abreast of GMHC's new and ongoing initiatives, programs and services, and to identify priority funding needs. The Manager communicates year-round with corporate and foundation representatives to maintain and strengthen affiliation with GMHC, through activities such as mailings, funder briefings, program events, meetings, site visits, and phone conversations. This position will serve as the agency's lead representative for a robust portfolio of these partners and funders.

Desired Skills & Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Proven experience in successful grant and proposal prospecting and writing necessary. Knowledge of foundation and corporate funding priorities is essential. Strong project management skills and attention to detail required. Advanced computer/technical skills in Word, Excel, Raiser's Edge and Outlook required. In addition, the Manager should possess time management abilities, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work as a team player as well as under pressure.
