Managing Director, Leadership Programming

Teach For America - Managing Director, Leadership Programming As Teach For America Memphis continues to expand our impact, we seek to hire a Managing Director of Leadership Programming (MDLP) to lead a team that will play an important role in helping us achieve our regional vision and Teacher Leadership Development charge by setting vision for, planning, and executing year round skill and values based leadership development for over 300 corps members.

Skill-based leadership development will focus on internalizing our vision of Teaching As Leadership and it's necessity in our unique context. Additionally, the Leadership Programming team will work to build corps member knowledge, skills, and mindsets related to fostering a passionate, joyful, and urgent culture of achievement in our corps members' classrooms.

Values-based leadership will focus on developing leaders who live up to their own deeply personal moral code by aligning their actions to their values. They are convicted (of their beliefs and values), capable (in their leadership), clear (on what they're trying to accomplish), and connected (to those with whom they work).

The MDLP is a valued member of the Teacher Leadership Development (TLD) team and is managed by the Vice President of Teacher Leadership Development. This person will be responsible for managing a team comprised of two Directors of Leadership Programming (DLP).

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key member of the TLD leadership teams, making significant decisions that will impact both corps member leadership and student achievement.
  • Provide strong management, training, and on-going coaching, support, and development for two Directors of Leadership Programming (DLP) who create and execute skill and values based development opportunities for corps members
  • With the Managing Director of Instructional Leadership, co-manage the corps member certification process and maintain Teach For America's status as a certifying body in the state of Tennessee
  • With the Managing Director of Instructional Leadership, co-manage our effort to create a comprehensive corps member scope and sequence of skill and values based development for Memphis corps members that begins with corps member onboarding and continues throughout their two-year experience (includes summer institute)
  • Develop a vision for the design and execution of on-going group training for corps members (including traditional group learning experiences and workshops and creative delivery methods such as webinars, podcasts, videos, etc)
  • Design and execute / lead the DLPs to design and execute learning experiences for corps members
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of trainings on student achievement results and corps member leadership
  • Collaborate closely with Managing Directors of Teacher Leadership Development and Managing Director of Instructional leadership to ensure that the Leadership Programming team is helping to respond to trends in corps member classrooms with just-in-time training and knowledge/skill building for corps members
  • Ensure that staff members (full-time and part-time) are equipped to deliver professional development that capitalizes on blended learning (blending online/in person coaching or training)
  • During the summer institute, manage part-time teacher leadership development staff
  • Collaborate with the national support team and leadership programming staff in other regions to align on a vision of excellence and strengthen our capacity for supporting our corps members
  • Form strong external relationships and partnerships with instructional leaders in our partner districts and organizations and local providers of teacher professional development, so that we are maximizing the resources available in our community
  • Participation in selection and matriculation of future corps members

Demonstrated Experience:

  • Ability to set vision and direction, develop strong relationships with diverse constituents, and leverage them to meet ambitious outcomes
  • Experience innovating with skill and values-based leadership development
  • Experience successfully managing a team preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Previous experience working at a Teach For America preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience preferred
  • Bachelors degree required

Other:
Willingness to work some weekends and evenings to facilitate corps member professional development throughout the year (including during our regional summer institute)
