Urban Sustainability Directors Network - Communications and Member Services Assistant
The Urban Sustainability Directors Network (USDN) is a project of the Global Philanthropy Partnership. The USDN Communications and Member Services Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting information exchange among 116 North American municipal sustainability leaders by spearheading member communications and managing technology and analysis tools to facilitate peer-to-peer sharing and collaboration.
Spearhead Member Communications:

Produce weekly USDN member e-newsletter, website posts, and tweets.

Manage member content and the tagging system on the website.

Identify ways to improve the website and e-newsletter.
Manage Member Information:
-
Produce regular reports on member activity and website use for the USDN Planning and Communications Committees.

Create online member surveys and assist with analysis.

Maintain Network tracking spreadsheets, email lists, and website profiles.
Provide Member Services:
-
Schedule conference calls and webinars.
-
Provide logistical support for webinars and calls for multiple committees, user groups, and small groups.

Respond to member requests and questions, including light technical support for the website.

Occasionally assist with facilitating discussion on conference calls and webinars.
Requirements
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree required.
-
Background in social sciences, information management, communications, and/or member services preferred.
-
Demonstrated interest in sustainability, local government, or social network administration desirable.
Previous experience:
-
1 to 3 years related experience required. May include internships.
-
Past experience in detail-oriented position preferred – i.e., managing logistics for large meetings, staffing a commission or group of high-level participants, providing project management for a multi-party research project, or responding to customer questions.

Blogging and other social media, database management, website management, and/or member services preferred.
-
Past experience building membership and involvement for an organization or network desirable.
Hard and Soft Skills:

Organized, analytical, and highly motivated

Skilled in computer technology, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Drive

Familiar with webinar services, online survey services, blogging, and website content management including tagging and HTML preferred

Excellent written and verbal communicator (listening and writing)

Detail-oriented and able to accurately meet deadlines

Proactive, able to identify potential issues and brainstorm solutions

Independent (comfortable and efficient working alone) while a good team player (communicating with other team members through frequent electronic correspondence and infrequent in‐person interaction)

Mission-driven with a passion for fostering social, economic, or environmental change
Location:
USDN has no central office, so the position is strictly work‐from‐home with weekly web meetings. Chicago or Cincinnati desirable, but can be elsewhere if periodically travel to Chicago or Cincinnati. Candidates must furnish their own quiet office space for many conference calls, computer, Microsoft Office suite, phone service, and high-speed Internet connection. Application Instructions
