Casting for Recovery - Executive Director

The mission of Casting for Recovery® (CFR) is to provide fly-fishing retreats specifically tailored for women who have or have had breast cancer. We use the sport of fly-fishing to promote mental and physical healing, provide psychosocial and medical support, and to enhance the quality of life for our participants. The organization:

  • Was founded in 1996 by a professional fly fisher and a breast reconstructive surgeon, who had the insight that the physical motion of fly-casting is similar to the exercises that surgeons prescribe after surgery or radiation, thus promoting soft tissue stretching.
  • Successfully addresses issues of “survivorship,” a significant but largely unmet need of women who have fully or nearly completed medical treatment of their cancer, but are still dealing with the physical, mental and emotional effects of the disease and its treatment. (Please see supporting research data at http://bit.ly/1agzIvC)
  • Has served over 5,500 women across the U.S. since its inception.
  • Is sponsored by Under Armour, L.L. Bean, Smart Wool, Sisters On the Fly, and Ashford Hospitality Trust.

In addition to the organization’s 6 full-time and 4 part-time national staff, staff, there are over 1,500 CFR volunteers, supporting 42 retreat programs in 32 states.

Casting for Recovery is an equal opportunity employer.

Position

Casting for Recovery is seeking an experienced Executive Director to manage a national organization with a strong volunteer base.

The Executive Director will manage the full-and part-time national staff, as well as the 1,500+ volunteers across the US; strategically recruit and maintain relationships with additional volunteers, strategic partners and funders; and ensure that the retreats continue to be well run, strategically and medically sound and supported, and sustainable.

In conjunction with the Board of Directors and operations across the country, he/she will develop and implement a strategy for achieving specific funding targets, as well as for the sustainable growth of the overall organization.
