The Forgotten International - Education Program Coordinator
Education Program Coordinator:
The Forgotten International (TFI) works to bring people together in the world
who have ample resources with people who have dire needs. Those in need are
given the gift of hope, while those who help are given the gift kindness and
compassion. “Forgotten people” can be found all over the world. They
are typically women and children who have very little, and sometimes live at the
edge of life and death. They are people who will never themselves escape
poverty, but with some help may give their children a future free from the harsh
experiences they have always known. Many live in countries without safety nets
and are surrounded by others who have accepted the notion that an entire class
of people can be treated as societal waste. As a result, they become forgotten,
and are often left in the shadows.TFI was founded by Professor Tom Nazario in 2007 at the University of
San Francisco School of Law and is currently run by a small dedicated staff.
TFI operates entirely on donations and focuses its limited
resources within four main areas in doing the work of poverty alleviation:
Small Grants: TFI researches areas of need around the world
and identifies potential projects for sponsorship.
Service: Through our Fellowship
Program, TFI sends skilled volunteers to work with grassroots
organizations abroad.
Goods and Supplies: In collaboration with our Partners,
TFI delivers goods and supplies to village schools and
hospitals in need.
Awareness: Professor Nazario makes presentations to members
of community groups, foundations, and corporations to inspire people to join
together to help fight poverty in our global community and works to bring
attention to those around the world who live in extreme poverty.

before applying. See below for requirements for the position of Education
Program Coordinator.
Job Requirements: In addition to the work that The Forgotten International has done for several
years, in 2013 the organization will begin the process of working on a new
initiative whereby we will develop a curriculum to be taught, at least
initially, in several Bay Area private schools. This curriculum will be designed
for a course intended to teach young people about the importance of giving and
caring. The course will not only help students develop compassion, empathy and
the desire to help others less fortunate than themselves, but will also start
them on the road to adopt a school somewhere in the developing world that they
can help in one way or another. The program will be, to some extent, modeled
after other similar initiatives that have sprung up in different parts of the
country, but for now have yet to expand to a large body of schools.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Experience in developing curriculum material and lesson plans
- Experience in doing research both on the internet and by talking to
others in the field
- The ability to work well within diverse groups of people
- Professional communication skills, both verbal and written
- Organized, punctual and detail oriented
- Be a motivated self starter and be able to keep to set schedule
- Teaching experience, either teaching youth directly or training
teachers in schools to have them, in turn, deliver the materials to students
- Someone with access to a vehicle would be preferred
- Experience in program development and organizational structures
- Experience in fundraising, preferred but not required
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, although graduate work in
education would be preferred
- A love for this kind of work, the desire to help others and to
encourage future generations to care and to, in fact, do something to help make
the world a better place
- Possibly wish to make this kind of work one’s life-long
career
Terms of Employment:
This position, hopefully, will be available through the end of 2013, and may be
extended for several more years provided funding is made available. Most of the
employee’s work will be done under the supervision of our president and
conducted at our San Francisco office at Two Embarcadero Center.
Applications will not be accepted after January 7, 2013.
Compensation: This is a part-time position. The time commitment required will be 12-15 hours
per week. The actual working hours will be flexible and can be arranged, but
must be between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm. There are no benefits associated
with this position, and the rate of pay will be $18 per hour.
To Apply: If interested, please send us your resume and cover letter by mail or
email.
