The California STEM Learning Network (CSLNet) is non-profit entity created in 2010 to advance science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education in California. CSLNet is connecting stakeholders across multiple sectors (formal and informal educators, business leaders, policy makers, program providers, and members of the philanthropic community) to share best practices, fill gaps in the system and promote equity and access to high-quality STEM education for all students.
Providing excellent STEM education for our students is critical to revitalizing the California economy and preparing the workforce we need for tomorrow. CSLNet's goals are to:

Increase interest and competencies among all K-14 California students in STEM disciplines

Ensure all California students are college and career ready, without the need for remediation upon graduation from high school, with a greater number of students pursuing STEM-related degrees and careers

Build a network that connects existing assets and develops new capacity to innovate, scale and sustain effective STEM teaching and learning

POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Chief of Policy and Development, the Communications Manager will play a key role in building public understanding and support for CSLNet's work to advance STEM education in California. The Communications Manager, working with the Chief of Policy and Development, will develop and implement communications and outreach strategies to support the organization's long-term goals. He/she will manage CSLNet's award-winning website, social media, newsletters, webinars, press releases, blog posts, online campaigns and contribute to fundraising efforts.
Key Responsibilities

Guide and support CSLNet's senior leadership team in developing the organization's marketing and communications plan, including website development, social media strategy, and advocacy campaigns.

Manage and produce the CSLNet website, newsletters, webinars, press releases, blogs, annual reports and marketing collateral.

Manage advocacy and media campaigns. Duties include online advocacy, writing editorials, community-outreach efforts, blogger outreach, promotions, etc.

Manage presence in social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube and other similar community sites, relevant blogs and social applications.

Coordinate with stakeholders across the organization to ensure adoption and effectiveness of relevant social media techniques into the CSLNet culture and into all of the organization's products and services.

Develop and monitor effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of marketing programs, and analyze, review, and report on overall effectiveness of various channels in an effort to maximize results.

Participate in working groups with other team members to plan, coordinate and execute original communications products and publications related to CSLNet's events and programs.

Develop content for informational brochures; reviews and edits drafts of correspondence, reports, and brochures for mass distribution; drafts articles and reports on the status of major initiatives for distribution to both internal and external partners as well as the public at large.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. Masters Degree in communications, public affairs or other STEM-education related fields preferred.

Minimum of five years related work experience.

Very strong writing and editing skills directed at a wide variety of audiences and formats including website, social media, op-eds and feature articles. Ability to develop appealing presentation materials.

Experience and enthusiasm for creative use of websites and social media as tools for community building and advocacy. Experience in political or issue campaigns is a plus.

Research and analysis skills to assess available technology tools and match their use to CSLNet's organizational development needs.

Quick learner with ability to work well in a start-up team environment, manage multiple assignments, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.

Experience working in an organization focused on STEM education a plus.

Ability to work autonomously with minimal direction.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The compensation is commensurate with experience and includes salary and a benefits package. This position will be located in the California STEM Learning Network's office in San Francisco, California.
