SAGE - Outreach Coordinator

Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) is the nation’s oldest and largest non-profit organization serving and celebrating older members of the LGBT community. Since its founding in 1978, SAGE has developed and provided a wide array of social and community-based services in New York City, including case management, individual and group counseling, some of the nation’s first programs dedicated to LGBT older adults living with HIV, and Friendly Visiting for the homebound. In addition, SAGE is a national leader -- providing informational and educational tools to LGBT older people and training and technical assistance to professionals and service providers across the country. SAGE has a growing national network of affiliates.

This position will work out of the SAGE Harlem NORC office as part of Community Services, and will have primary responsibility for outreach in both Harlem and the Bronx. This position will also be responsible for incorporating and implementing new programming out of the SAGE Harlem offices. This position will need to work in close collaboration with The SAGE Center and both Harlem and Bronx aging and LGBT service providers and community partners. This position needs to have familiarity with the issues of LGBT communities of Color in Harlem, East Harlem and the Bronx. This position needs to be Spanish/English bilingual. This position is supervised by the SAGE Harlem Program Manager.

Requirements:

  • College grad or comparable work experience.
  • Experience doing community outreach, including creating and implementing targeted outreach plans.
  • Ability to travel on public transport to outreach locations all over Harlem, East Harlem and the Bronx.
  • Experience working with LGBT communities of Color.
  • Experience collaborating with other CBO’s.
  • Experience producing and implementing community-based programming.
  • Experience working with older adults preferred, and must have willingness to learn about aging issues.
  • Spanish/English language proficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Create outreach plans and perform outreach in Harlem, East Harlem and the Bronx.
  • Promote SAGE Harlem Programs in Harlem, East Harlem and the Bronx.
  • Produce programs for LGBT older adults in Harlem and the Bronx.
  • Meet with OATS to set-up and produce computer classes for LGBT older adults in Harlem and the Bronx.
  • Develop relationships with other services providers and CBO’s in Harlem, East Harlem and the Bronx to create community partnerships and facilitate program collaboration with SAGE Harlem.
  • Produce programs in collaboration with other Harlem and Bronx service providers.
  • Provide assistance and support to SAGE Harlem programs, as available/needed.
  • Increase SAGE Harlem service numbers.
  • Perform and record case assistance units and do monthly reporting to Harlem Program Manager.
  • All other duties as assigned.
