PETA - Area Organizer

Position Objective:

To direct regional activities as part of PETA's diverse outreach programs

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Recruit and direct activists to help achieve the goals of PETA's outreach program
  • Represent PETA to the media and the general public
  • Maintain regular records and calendars of scheduled events
  • Generate a visible presence outside popular tourist attractions and at well-attended events
  • Research and develop opportunities to promote PETA's programs and presence
  • Keep informed about local and national news stories and develop plans based on them to increase media coverage of PETA campaigns
  • Organize and take part in media outreach, celebrity engagement, demonstrations, exhibits, street theater, food sales, giveaways, and other types of appearances at festivals and events
  • Maintain the inventory of PETA's "Animal Liberation" booklet and vegetarian/vegan starter kit distribution stands and maintain and stock selected stands
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two years of activist experience
  • Prior experience in project development
  • Proven thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
  • Proven exceptional public-speaking skills
  • Proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
