Jewish Theological Society - Director of Principal Gifts
The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS), a preeminent institution of Jewish higher education, seeks Director of Principal Gifts, based in the New York area. JTS integrates rigorous academic scholarship and teaching with a commitment to strengthening Jewish tradition, Jewish lives, and Jewish communities. It trains rabbis, cantors, scholars and educators, as well as Jewish communal professionals and lay activists. In addition to a range of graduate programs, JTS offers a renowned undergraduate program in conjunction with Barnard and Columbia.
The Director of Principal Gifts, along with a team of directors in New York and in key regions throughout the country, is responsible for fundraising through direct solicitation of major gifts, as well as planning and implementing fundraising events, cultivation dinners and parlor meetings, working with the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor.
The Director of Principal Gifts oversees educational outreach in his/her assigned area and interfaces with volunteer, lay leadership, and rabbinic leadership, as well as faculty, staff and students at JTS. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Director of Principal Gifts will manage a portfolio of between 150 – 200 donors and prospects per year and will participate in at least 150 donor and prospect meetings annually. Position requires some travel as Director’s portfolio will include donors/prospects who reside outside the New York Metro area.
Qualifications for successful candidate include a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of development experience, with emphasis on individual giving. Advanced degree a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Application Instructions
