The Harlem School of the Arts—New York City’s acclaimed provider of quality arts education in multiple disciplines since 1964, and newly stabilized after a transformational $5M gift from The Herb Alpert Foundation—seeks an ambitious, capable and passionate arts executive for the newly created position of Director of Sales & Marketing.
This key position reports to the President & Chief Executive Officer and is charged with achieving annual earned revenues of approximately $2,000,000 from class tuition, facility rentals, catering sales, merchandise sales, and other sources. The position partners with the Board Marketing Committee and the Director of Development, and manages a two-person marketing staff and outside vendors.
The successful candidate will be highly experienced, preferably in or from the performing arts in New York City, with a strong track record in a comparable setting. Previous experience with educational class sales for adults and children, performing arts venue and studio rentals, organizational branding, marketing and advertising, and/or strategic marketing will be highly regarded.
The successful applicant will hold Bachelors in Marketing and a Masters in Arts Administration, or the equivalent. S/he will be an acknowledged and accomplished sales and marketing leader, with demonstrated and excellent technical skills, as well as prior experience managing staff. S/he will thrive in a fast-paced, hectic work environment and be able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
