Position Description Summary: The Director of Development develops and implements diverse fundraising strategies to support the operation of a busy emergency food pantry and social service counseling center that provides food for well over one million meals each year. The incumbent works with the Executive Director, Board, Advisory Board and individuals and groups in the community to develop new sources of funding and sustain existing sources. This position requires a skilled professional with at least five years of significant experience in all aspects of nonprofit fundraising.
Essential Functions: Develops comprehensive, proactive strategies for maintaining a healthy funding mix; identifies, cultivates and solicits corporate, foundation and individual gift prospects (i.e. with existing donors to maximize giving and with new donors to begin donations and grow relationships); manages and increases annual income of fundraising events and drives scheduled throughout the calendar year; answers to the Executive Director regarding fundraising goals; utilizes Board of Directors and other resources to support fundraising efforts; explores and develops internet-based channels to build fundraising and diversify funding base, including email campaigns and social networking; plans and manages newsletters, website, site visits, and initiatives for existing and prospective donors; tracks all activity related to the management of donors/prospects, and monitors the accuracy of information in the donor database; writes correspondence, donation acknowledgements, proposals, and reports as needed.
Qualifications

Education and work experience: Bachelor’s degree required. Five or more years of not-for-profit fundraising experience.

General knowledge of the principles and practices of non-profit fundraising.

Proven experience in face-to-face asks, initiating, developing and maintaining relationships with individual donors.

Experience successfully managing fundraising events and drives.

Experience raising corporate support.

Entrepreneurial sales orientation.

Experience and success with grants application and grant management processes.

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time and achieve results

The ability to apply and adapt practices and techniques to the special requirements of the Executive Director and WSCAH Board of Directors

Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with corporate and foundation representatives, civic and community leaders, churches and synagogues, as well as WSCAH management staff, employees, and customers.

Excellent analytical and written communications skills.

The ability to produce creative and effective strategies.
- Ability and willingness to develop internet-based strategies
- Knowledge of Spanish a plus
