Research Associate, PETA
Position Objective:
To provide research support for a wide range of projects involving
animal-testing issues
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
-
Independently research and interpret a variety of animal protection
issues to further PETA's cause, primarily as it relates to animal testing
required by regulatory agencies and the FDA in particular
- Collaborate with director and science policy advisor to decide on and
obtain the necessary data for factsheets, white papers, reports, and other
correspondence
- Represent PETA at scientific conferences and communicate with
scientists regarding issues relating to casework
- Build and maintain communications with key audiences, including in
particular decision-makers in the legislative, administrative, and clinical
arenas
- Develop expertise in non-animal test methods
- Answer correspondence regarding animal-testing issues
- Conduct analysis of technical papers and translate scientific
terminology into lay terms for use in research projects
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- Degree in a related field
- Demonstrated ability to conduct in-depth research and handle many issues
simultaneously
- Proven familiarity with and the ability to apply medical/scientific
terminology
- Familiarity with animal testing issues and non-animal testing
methods
- Proven ability to make sound, independent judgments
- Proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Professional appearance and extensive public speaking experience
- Proven ability to deal with members and the public in a professional and
courteous manner
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
simultaneously
- Proven excellent strategic thinking and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- Willingness and ability to travel
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's
license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory
driving record
