The Horizon Foundation is an independent philanthropy dedicated to improving the health and wellness of people living and working in Howard County, Maryland. We invest in strategic grants and initiatives to achieve the greatest impact in our community. We also build partnerships and advocate for public policy changes that advance our mission.
The Foundation’s current strategic goals are to reduce childhood obesity, expand access to health coverage, and increase access to health care services. The Foundation is looking for a creative and detailed oriented research associate to work across its program, communications, and grant making activities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct public health policy research on current and emerging issues of interest to the Foundation including analyses of local, state, and national policies related to health and wellness.
- Synthesize research findings for internal and external purposes.
- Support program and communications staff in research and data analysis.

Monitor local public health statistics and coordinate how these statistics will be communicated and displayed in partnership with other local partners and Foundation staff.

Work with CEO and Chief Program Officer on implementing the Foundation’s strategic plan, especially assisting with the measurement and reporting of impact measures.

Write and edit presentations and publications.

Help maintain Foundation contact and grant databases.

Attend meetings with CEO, Chief Program Officer and other staff.

Represent the Foundation when needed.

Assist with logistics for internal and external meetings, including the Foundation’s annual meeting.

Oversee student internship program.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in public health, public administration, health policy, or related degree is preferred.

Passion for improving public health and wellness, particularly related to curbing obesity and increasing access to health care.

Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and manage multiple tasks.

Skilled in analyzing and synthesizing quantitative and qualitative information.

Exceptional writing skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

High energy and flexibility to work in a changing environment.
