Senior Principal Gift Officer

Population Services International
Washington, DC

Population Services International - Senior Principal Gift Officer

For more than 40 years, Population Services International (PSI) has been dedicated to improving health and saving lives. The organization has reached a pivotal moment in its history and is now poised to embark on an ambitious new initiative that will expand PSI’s impact and allow them to save even more lives. Thanks to an investment by a well-respected large private foundation, PSI is creating a Global Investment Network of Women Leaders to help convert awareness into action through major giving (gifts of seven figures) for women and girls’ programs and innovations.

Specifically, PSI is seeking to raise $50 million in new funding over the next three years for pilot programs that address the health needs of girls and women. Her Royal Highness Mette-Marit, Crown Princess of Norway, is a Co-Chair of the effort. PSI serves as the implementing partner, designing, managing, evaluating, and measuring pilot programs with NGO partners large and small.

In order to successfully implement and meet financial targets, PSI is seeking a sophisticated Senior Principal Gift Officer. This individual will be responsible for the strategic direction and management of fundraising activities related to this exciting new initiative, including implementing effective multi-year strategies for growing the individual major giving program. S/he must have experience soliciting and building strong relationships with high-net-worth individuals of great influence and affluence. In addition to guiding board members, senior leaders, and volunteers through the fundraising process, the Senior Principal Gift Officer will be responsible for managing his/her own major donor portfolio.

This individual will be a member of the Corporate Marketing, Communications and Advocacy (CMCA) team, and will work closely with senior leadership. The Senior Principal Gift Officer will report to the Director of CMCA and will supervise a staff of up to five.

The Senior Principal Gift Officer will have at least 10 years of successful experience in major/principal giving. There is a strong preference for candidates with comprehensive campaign experience, including campaign planning, strategy development, and volunteer management, as well as cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of campaign donors.

Founded in 1970 to improve reproductive health using commercial marketing strategies, PSI has grown to become a global health organization that helps people in the developing world by focusing on serious challenges like a lack of family planning, HIV and AIDS, barriers to maternal health, and the greatest threats to children under five, including malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia, and malnutrition. In 2011 alone, PSI helped prevent approximately 57.5 million malaria episodes, 4.7 million unintended pregnancies, and 207,000 new HIV infections.
