Managing Director, Strategy, Talent, Regional Team

Teach For America - Managing Director, Strategy, Talent, Regional Team As we continue to grow our scale and impact in Miami-Dade, we are seeking a Managing Director of Strategy, Talent, and Regional Team Operations to manage the operations of the regional team in a way that maximizes the team's effectiveness and enables the region to reach its ambitious goals. The Managing Director of Strategy, Talent, and Regional Team Operations serves several regional needs: overseeing regional team performance management and advising senior team leaders on strategic direction, maximizing synergies across a complex team, overseeing the creation of all internal and external team events, ensuring that the entire regional team has the human talent needed to reach its goals, maximizing efficiency and accuracy around the region's critical finance and administrative needs, and leading a team of operations staff for smooth day to day operations and progress in the above responsibility areas. This position provides a unique opportunity for individuals with superior critical thinking, communication, and relationship-building skills to build the capacity of the whole team to meet its goals, by understanding and pushing the team to execute on key regional priorities and ensuring the long-term stability of the Miami-Dade region, including the talent and development of regional staff.

Team Overview

Miami-Dade has been called a multicultural mosaic - a city setting the bar for diversity in our country. With that great diversity comes great potential for our city to be a launching pad for thousands of future leaders from unique backgrounds and perspectives. Our 300 corps members and 150 area alumni are helping to unleash that potential for all children growing up in the region.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategy Design and Execution

  • Driving the process for regional vision setting, strategic planning, talent planning, and financial budgeting processes that push forward Teach For America's theory of change in the region
  • Designing reporting and analysis frameworks to facilitate ongoing performance management across key regional goals and initiatives, and supporting overall effectiveness of the team by flagging trends, risks, and challenge areas for the regional leadership team
  • Recommending, developing, and managing cross-cutting initiatives that support our goals and vision, working with managers across the region and leveraging national functional teams and external partners.
  • Recommending, researching, developing and managing cross-organizational partnerships that advance Teach For America's mission in South Florida

Human Assets and Team Culture

  • Supporting the executive director and managers in driving toward all human assets goals, including the organizational strength measure, staff diversity, and retention
  • Creating a comprehensive human capital development and management plan including processes for hiring, on-boarding, evaluating, supporting improvement and learning and development for staff across the team
  • Designing, structuring and supporting ongoing, purposeful management training across the team for new and returning managers
  • Leading a social committee to create fun social events

Event and Team Operations Management

  • Serving as the key regional contact to many national functional team business partners
  • Managing the regional budgeting, forecasting, and planning systems
  • Designing the scope and sequence for leadership team meetings, managing the planning, communications, and operations of the team; and serving as an active member
  • Managing cross-functional communication and decision-making, determining who must be involved, how to efficiently structure communications, and how to involve the executive director appropriately, when to schedule large events, etc.
  • Overseeing the design and implementation of events with external audiences, including neighborhood/community outreach events
  • Overseeing the design and implementation of all events for Miami-Dade regional team staff members, including regular meetings designed to inform all team members of regional progress to goal, give staff members an opportunity to connect with each other, and provide professional development opportunities
  • Managing support staff to: coordinate cross-team functions; manage calendars of several team members; plan event logistics; work with national team partners to ensure we have strong external communication; evaluate, design, implement, and maintain databases, tracking systems, and reporting models to address team needs

Candidate Profile and Experience Prerequisites

  • Bachelor's degree required; professional degree preferred
  • Minimum 6 years professional work experience preferred
  • Proven record of achieving ambitious results
  • Proven record of managing a team of direct reports to accomplish ambitious results
  • Ability to build strong relationships and work with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Exceptionally strong strategic thinking
  • Excellent communication both verbal and written
  • Superb planning and project management skills
  • Good judgment, strong initiative, and a quick learner
  • Ability to thrive in a goal-oriented, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial environment, including the ability to be flexible in project execution
  • Demonstrates exceptional professionalism, poise, and judgment at all times
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
