Visiting Nurse Service of New York
New York, New York

Visiting Nurse Service of New York - Field Volunteer Coordinator

Visiting Nurse Service of New York, with $1.3 billion in revenue, is the country’s largest not-for-profit home based healthcare company. As a payer (Medicare Advantage, Medicaid Long Term Care) and a provider (homecare, hospice, long term care), VNSNY services more than 140,000 individuals a year in the metro New York City marketplace. Each day, over 10,000 VNSNY nurses, rehabilitation therapists, social workers, and allied professionals and paraprofessionals deliver compassionate care, unparalleled medical expertise, and 24/7 solutions.

We are currently seeking a part-time Field Volunteer Coordinator to plan and organize volunteer services in the Queens region, and to ensure activities are consistent with program philosophies, goals, and objectives. In this role, you will help identify staffing needs and place volunteers accordingly while fostering an environment of ongoing support for volunteers and staff who work with volunteers. You will plan volunteer services for VNSNY in Queens and ensure adherence with Agency policies and procedures. This includes recruiting/interviewing, coordinating events, evaluating performance, and maintaining records on volunteers, among other tasks. You will also be highly involved in the orientation and training of all assigned volunteers.

You will work with VNSNY staff to promote a pro-volunteer environment within the regional offices. We are seeking an individual who can foster an environment of support for staff members who work with volunteers through ongoing communication to ensure that the needs of both volunteers and the Agency are being met. You’ll develop and identify new volunteer opportunities and work with the internal staff and outside agencies to determine where volunteers are needed and where they can be found. You will support the volunteers through ongoing communication and you will evaluate their performance as needed. You will communicate volunteer performance issues and volunteer recognition/praise to the VNSNY management/staff on an ongoing basis.

To qualify for this role, you must have a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Education, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field. You must have a minimum of two years of experience in Volunteer Management/Administration, including direct involvement in community relations or as a leadership volunteer. A minimum of one year of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity is required. We are looking for an excellent communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills who is proficient in personal computers. You must also be able to adapt to change and work well independently.

This part-time role requires a 24 hours per week commitment and operates on a rotational basis.
