New York International Children's Film Festival - Executive Director

New York International Children’s Film Festival (NYICFF) is seeking an Executive Director to create and execute on contributed and earned income opportunities, build capacity, and assume a leadership role to expand the reach and impact of this world-renowned organization. The position begins January 2013.

About NYICFF:

Founded in 1997, NYICFF is the largest festival of film for children and teens in North America and is at the forefront of a movement to define a new, more relevant and compelling film for children. The cornerstone of the organization is the annual four-week March festival, a one-of-a-kind showcase of the absolute best new film from around the world for ages 3-18. The most recent edition presented 100 films to a sold-out audience of 25,000 attendees and generated over 100 million media hits. NYICFF is an Oscar qualifying event and our jury includes film luminaries Uma Thurman, Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, James Schamus, and Gus van Sant.

In addition to the annual film festival, the organization produces year-round programs in New York and nationally, an online festival, a Film Education program, hands-on filmmaking classes for children, and has a well-established and effective audience diversity program. In recognition of these efforts, the NY State Council for the Arts named NYICFF “a model for youth programming in New York State.” Despite the recent economic downturn, NYICFF has more than doubled its operating budget over the past four years.

The Position:

The Executive Director (ED) will work in close partnership with our Founding Artistic Director to build on a strong foundation and grow the organization to the next level. The ED will have primary responsibility for fundraising, business development, and organizational management and will play a leadership role in setting strategic direction. The ED will report to the Founding Artistic Director and will be the primary liaison between the festival staff and the Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising – Primary responsibility for all contributed income activities including: major donor cultivation, corporate philanthropy, sponsorship, annual benefits, appeals and membership drives.
  • Business Development – Build revenue-generating partnerships with for-profit and non-profit organizations. Cultivate business, cultural, political and community leaders locally and nationally.
  • Board Development – Work with the Artistic Director and Board Co-Presidents to cultivate, recruit, develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors.

Executive Management – Oversee finances and administration, fundraising and communications.

Qualifications:

  • Senior management experience in a non-profit or for profit organization, with a history of achieving strategic objectives, setting goals, adhering to time lines, and managing organizational budgets.
  • Demonstrated and quantifiable record of success in non-profit fundraising, including major donor cultivation, corporate philanthropy, sponsorship, and fundraising events – ideally in the New York area.
  • Entrepreneurial-minded self-starter, with track record of driving organizational growth.
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors, with the ability to lead Board cultivation efforts.
  • Persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent written, verbal, and people skills. Ability to represent the public face of the organization and work effectively and efficiently in collaboration with diverse groups of people.

The position is full-time, salaried, and health benefits are available. Compensation commensurate with experience.
