Organization Background and Mission
The mission of Teen Talk Sexuality Education (TTSE) is to provide science-based comprehensive educational programs to youth and adults to help teens make the healthy choices that will result in lower rates of teen pregnancy and STD/HIV in the community. Teen Talk’s school-based programs are held primarily on the Peninsula in the Bay Area. The ED will work with a nine-member board, overseeing an annual budget of approximately $400,000 and a team of five.
Position Overview
The Executive Director is responsible for the management and operation of Teen Talk Sexuality Education (Teen Talk) and ensuring the execution of the mission, strategic goals and objectives. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board and manages day-to-day operations, provides office and staff supervision, in addition to leading and executing fund development efforts.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Fund Development/Grant Writing/Management
- Works with the Board to develop and execute annual fundraising plans
- Initiate, cultivate, manage, and steward relationships with individual, foundation and corporate supporters
- Highly organized – defines and implements strategy for grant acquisition and maintains accurate grant records
- Evaluates success and progress of grant awards and refines business tactics as needed
- Manages various contracts for services at school sites
Donor Cultivation
- Defines strategy and business tactics for implementation of donor cultivation
- Creates administrative systems to support donor cultivation. These include program documentation, systematized contact programs, gift proposal programs and reporting systems
- Conducts research to identify donor prospects and develops a cultivation and solicitation plan which involves building relationships with prospects through a series of personal visits and small events. Tracks and reports progress monthly.
Fiscal Management
- Develop, manage and maintain an annual budget of approximately $400,000+
- Responsible for the implementation of financial policies/procedures and works closely with the Board treasurer and bookkeeper to ensure compliance
- In conjunction with the Board treasurer and bookkeeper, assures agency legal compliance and compliance with requirements for funding sources
Leadership /Administration
- Responsible for the development of new initiatives/expansion of programming and the overall strategic vision of the organization
- Responsible for all elements of managing the Teen Talk staff including guiding the team’s work, professional development, evaluations, hiring, and termination
- Builds relationships with stake holders and serves as the point person for funders, donors, and staff
- Responsible for attending chamber events and other meetings to advocate for Teen Talk
- Works closely with the Board of Directors and staff to establish and meet Teen Talk’s annual goals and objectives
- Meets with the Board Chair weekly and actively participates in Board meetings and committees as needed
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- BA degree, Master’s degree preferred
- Experience creating and managing a budget
- Minimum of 5-7 years nonprofit management experience in the youth services area or other related field
- Demonstration of people management, leadership skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with a variety of community stakeholders
- Proven history of successful fundraising including grant writing and working with different funding sources
- Proven record as a highly motivated self-starter and able to work independently
- Excellent writing and public speaking skills
- Strong office and computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and a working knowledge of QuickBooks and GiftWorks donor management software
- Ability to work with and motivate a Board of Directors and staff
- Professional integrity of the highest order
Position Compensation
This is a 75% time position (up to 30 hours a week) with health and dental benefits. Compensation is competitive and is based on experience
