Mental Health America of Middle Tennessee - TLC Training and Postvention Specialist
Tennessee Lives Count (TLC) is a Youth Suicide Prevention and Early Intervention Project designed to reduce suicides and suicide attempts for youth (ages 10-24). Currently, TLC plans to build on the successes of its first two grant cycles (2006-2011), by continuing its prevention training projects and adding a postvention training component. TLC operates as a program of the Mental Health America of Middle Tennessee, and the program is funded by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse (TDMHSAS) after Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act awarded to TDMHSAS.
A Training and Postvention Specialist is a statewide leader on the subject of suicide and suicide prevention. The Specialist travels throughout Tennessee, training various groups of professionals who work with at-risk youth on how to prevent suicides and providing appropriate resources for them. The Specialist will also assist with postvention debriefings, providing resources to students and faculty affected by a suicide in a school setting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Training and Postvention Specialist reports to the Project Coordinator and will assist in the statewide implementation of the youth suicide prevention project. Duties include the following:

Providing suicide prevention training and workshops to mental health clinicians, emergency departments, university faculty and staff, civic clubs, professionals who work with LGBT youth, and other community stakeholders.

Building and forging new relationships by providing trainings and presentations at existing professional conferences and in-service opportunities and assisting with health fairs and other community events.

Assistance in the development and implementation of the plan, including the delivery of support and materials to school staff and provision of consultations as necessary.

Building suicide prevention awareness through various social marketing components.

Provide general information and education about suicide prevention to targeted groups.

Prepare written reports and documentation as needed by the Project Coordinator.
Qualifications:

Master’s degree in mental health or a related field, earned at least five (5) years previously to date of application.

Five (5) years experience in the provision of clinical services required. Clinical licensure preferred. (Grief counseling experience desired.)

Three (3) years experience in training or teaching required.

Stress management skills desired.
Skills and Knowledge Required:

Demonstrated ability in writing and public speaking.

Experience speaking in front of large audiences.

Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and strong PC skills.

Ability to demonstrate understanding of a variety of models and theories of services for youth at risk for suicide, youth with mental illness, and related issues.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks.

Creative problem-solving skills.

Ability to follow directions and work independently.

Travel:
Based in Nashville; must have a valid driver’s license and be available for statewide travel 65% of the time, to include frequent trips requiring overnight lodging. Travel credit card to be provided.
Salary Range:
$34,000 - $42,000 salary commensurate with education and relevant experience

Work Schedule:
Full-time 100% effort of 37.5 hours/week (some weekend and evening work necessary).
