Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy - Associate Director
The Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy at NYU invites applications for an Associate Director to manage its daily operations and personnel. The ideal candidate will have an appreciation for research, an interest in urban policy and enthusiasm about a faculty-led and student-supported work environment. The Associate Director will be a key member of the senior leadership team, meaningfully contributing to strategic decision-making and planning.
The Associate Director will be responsible for:
Operations and Finance
-
Developing budgets and managing spending, in collaboration with University central staff, including procurement, staff compensation, and project-specific allocations.

Assigning and overseeing salary allocations of fellows, staff and students to appropriate projects and accounts to ensure accurate reporting in university systems.

Managing day-to-day operations, including agenda-setting for executive team meetings, ensuring close communications between staff and faculty directors, and trouble-shooting.
Grant Management
-
Overseeing the development and timely submission of proposals and reports to foundation and government funders.

Managing relationships with the University and Law School offices that oversee the submission of government and foundation grants.

Identifying corporate, foundation and government grantmaking opportunities that align with Furman Center strengths and interests. Facilitating meetings with potential funders, managing follow up and helping to cultivate the relationships.
Human Resources

Directly supervising Fiscal and Grants Manager and Administrative Associate.

Leading hiring process for a wide range of positions. Hiring and managing 25 graduate student research assistants a year.

Providing general supervision, professional development and managerial support for fellows, research assistants and staff.

Fostering a supportive work and learning environment through events, internal communications and informal channels.
Qualifications:
-
Masters degree in public administration, management, or related field
-
At least 5 years of experience, preferably in research administration, or in at least two of the following areas: finance and budgeting, fundraising, human resources

Appreciation and basic understanding of research and policy

Strong writing and editing abilities and proven experience in grant applications

Excellent communication, supervisory and managerial skills
-
Comfort with technology and advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite

Great sense of humor and empathy
