Columbia University - Grants Manager

GENERAL FUNCTION:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Insitute for Social and Economic Research and Policy (ISERP), the Grants Manager initiates and manages sponsored project contracts. He/she serves as the institute's primary grants administrator and represents the institute to sponsoring agencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Grants Manager investigates grant programs, informs faculty and students of funding opportunities and strategies for creating successful proposals, assists faculty in preparation of grant applications and subsequent funding contracts, and manages post-award administration. He/she explains application requirements to investigators and negotiates budgets with agencies as appropriate. He/she supervises one or more employees in the preparation of required financial reports and submits final reports to close grants. He/she administers the Columbia-internal seed grant program. The Grants Manager serves as liaison between faculty Principal Investigators, the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA), maintaining current knowledge of human subjects policies and troubleshooting IRB application submissions.

The Grants Manager maintains all pertinent records, files and documents; assures completeness and accuracy consistent with external and internal compliance requirements. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with faculty, students, and staff members on all aspects of grant administration. He/she speaks authoritatively on grants administration matters as a representative of ISERP.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and 2-3 years of related experience required.

Demonstrated capacity for independent, service-oriented work, well-developed critical thinking, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to foster cooperative relationships with university and external personnel are required. Computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to master quickly a range of administrative interfaces. Ability to direct, evaluate and supervise work of assigned personnel.

Prior management experience is desirable.
