Reporting to the Deputy Controller, Financial Reporting, the Senior Compliance and Grant Specialist assists in developing and implementing internal test processes and procedures, organization wide, to ensure that WNET is in compliance with all regulatory and funding agencies. The position will conduct internal audits to provide quality financial and regulatory assurance for all departments and assist in the review and preparation of the financial reporting required by funders. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Maintain the organization’s financial and accounting policy and procedures manual, updating the document as appropriate. Prepare an organization-wide grant management policies and procedures. Inform relevant officers and employees of newly adopted or updated policies and procedures.
  • Prepare financial reports required by funders, monitoring and reconciling actual expenditures to our General Ledger and providing explanation of variances from budget.
  • Perform internal audits to ensure compliance with grant requirements and the organization policy and procedures.
  • Provide assistance and/or guidance with grant-related issues, including budget revisions and variance analysis comparing budget to actual.
  • In coordination with the organization’s Senior Compliance Officer, work with all departments within the organization to ensure the implementation and training regarding the organization’s policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Also, assist with the internal staff training related to regulatory issues and restrictions pertaining to government funding. This includes, but is not limited to, Office of Management and Budget Circulars A-110, A-122 and A-133.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of specialized databases and systems for recording and tracking grant proposals, awards and related information; create and distribute standard and special reports and analysis as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all relevant financial and accounting regulations and procedures, including those applicable to government grants; ascertain that all grant requirements and deliverables are captured and monitored; disseminate and/or present changes to departments regarding internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all grant regulations and procedures.
  • Assist with the management of all A-133 audit activities including providing information to auditors and report preparation and any necessary follow-up efforts to address deficiencies.
  • Perform other special projects as assigned.

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelors degree in Accounting and at least 5 years of experience in government grant compliance. In addition, candidates must be computer literate with extensive knowledge of Excel and word processing software applications, strong analytical, procedural and organizational skills. Experience in Lawson and in an audit function is a plus.
