From the Top - Development Associate

From the Top is an independent non-profit organization that identifies, celebrates, and supports outstanding young classical musicians. Through award-winning radio and television programs, online media, a national tour of live events, outreach and educational programming, From the Top shares the stories and performances of young artists, ages 8-18, with millions each year. From the Top’s leadership development and mentoring programs prepare young musicians to connect with audiences, serve as positive role models, and give back to their communities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Associate is an integral member of a five-person development team that raises 80% of From the Top’s $3.4 million annual budget. The Development Associate will manage the ongoing administrative functions for the department, while providing critical support in the areas of gift processing, database maintenance, budget tracking, report preparation, donor research, donor communications, meeting scheduling, and event support. The Development Associate will:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for all Development-related inquiries from external and internal parties, providing the highest level of customer service at all times.
  • Process gifts in the Raiser’s Edge database, preparing related reports and generating acknowledgement letters.
  • Conduct donor research and assist with briefing preparation.
  • Perform regular database updates and maintenance, adding donor records, research, correspondence, and other points of contact.
  • Track departmental expense and revenue budgets, performing regular reconciliations in conjunction with the Finance department.
  • Manage the inventory and ordering of supplies for the department.
  • Assist with scheduling of and preparation for internal and external meetings.
  • Provide support in preparation for and at special events and annual gala fundraiser.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will have a commitment to the arts and to providing opportunities for young people, ideally with familiarity in the areas of classical music and/or youth development. He/she will be a highly organized problem-solver with superior attention to detail, will excel at interpersonal relationship-building and establishing rapport with donors, colleagues, and vendors, and will demonstrate discretion and the ability to work with confidential records. He/she will thrive in a dynamic, high-energy, collaborative environment, and be capable of working independently and managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting specific goals and deadlines. He/she will demonstrate outstanding aptitude in oral and written communications, and excel in budget management and quantitative analysis. He/she will be a self-starter, a strategic thinker, a diplomat, inquisitive and analytical, with a sense of humor. He/she will be available for occasional night and weekend ev ents, eager to contribute as part of a team, and will take personal pride in his/her work and delivering positive results.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree. At least two years of experience in a non-profit setting, ideally in a development office, with significant responsibility for providing administrative support and delivering high-level customer service. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, mail merge, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; advanced expertise preferred. Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other donor database; advanced expertise preferred.

SALARY

Competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience. This is a salaried/exempt position.
