American Civil Liberties Union - Web Project Manager, Communications

The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation (ACLU), founded in 1920, is a nationwide, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with more than 500,000 members dedicated to the principles of liberty and equality embodied in the U.S. Constitution. The Communications Department of the ACLU’s National Office in New York City seeks a full-time Web Project Manager.

OVERVIEW

The Web Project Manager will develop, oversee and maintain the ACLU.org digital media products and websites as an inspiring, high-quality information resource for the public including the press, member and donor audiences and for internal resources. The Web Project Manager reports to the Director of Internet Communications and functions as a project manager for special internal operations.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee day-to-day online operations for ACLU.org and other national websites;
  • Maintain familiarity with ACLU privacy protocols and policies as it pertains to Internet Communications;
  • Manage production process for special operational projects such as new applications or planning and building new websites; oversee the maintenance of digital products and tools such as timelines and maps, etc.;
  • Oversee quality control (QC; product development) and quality assurance (QA; product testing) process for all web/digital production;
  • Advise on best-of-web-and best-of-non-profit website layout, design and functionality from a user point of view to ensure effectiveness for defined target audiences;
  • Oversee site enhancements for the national websites in collaboration with web team for our content management system (CMS) including but not limited to web template optimization and site redesigns;
  • Work with Internet team, Senior Communications Strategists, Information Technology team, and outside vendors to plan and implement special projects; such as the launch of new tools and websites;
  • Coordinate web operational planning with Director of Internet Communications;
  • Maintain and share a monthly web production calendar with timeline and dependencies as part of the project management process;
  • Ensure that deadlines and milestones are met for all aspects of web production and operations;
  • Maintain a work plan in collaboration with Director of Internet Communications and provide regular weekly project updates;
  • Manage all multimedia assets in a data warehouse folder on a shared drive;
  • Perform other tasks and complete special projects as assigned by Director of Internet Communications.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience managing online operations, product development and product testing.
  • Experience working with HTML/CSS and Drupal; also Visio, Project, Excel, Data Flow Diagramming, Use Case Activity Diagrams, Open Source Product Development, and Information Architecture
  • Experience with web analytics, product development and product testing
  • Well-developed leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Experience managing projects in a cross-departmental setting.
  • Demonstrated interests in civil rights or civil liberties.
