Oakland Schools Foundation - Community Outreach Coordinator

The Oakland Schools Foundation (OSF) is a local education fund that secures and manages resources for Oakland public schools in order to support its vision of equity: that all students have the opportunity to achieve excellence. We provide services in community outreach and marketing, grants and donor development, professional learning, and leadership, operational, and financial coaching. OSF services are designed to help schools access and manage resources to meet needs that are typically underfunded in our public schools. OSF has a team of ten staff members, and a range of consultants. In the next year, OSF will serve 40 schools, the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD), and more than 14,000 students and families.

Position Overview:
OSF seeks a Community Outreach Coordinator with experience in project management, community relations and outreach, marketing, fundraising, campaign management, and customer service. This position is part-time and exempt at 32 hours per week (80% time), and is responsible for project management in support of (1) OSF marketing and community outreach initiatives and (2) delivery of communications, community outreach, and fundraising services for OSF partner schools.

This position reports to the Communications Manager and will work closely with all OSF departments. The position's responsibilities will likely evolve over time as OSF’s priorities change. We seek a self-motivated, client-oriented professional project manager with flexibility and creativity, whose role will include the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Client Services, Development, and Communications and Outreach teams to design and deliver communications, outreach, and fundraising services to clients
  • Support design and project management for marketing and community outreach projects for OSF and clients including brochures, newsletters, websites, event collateral, emails, and presentations
  • Provide design support for communications and outreach materials
  • Provide writing and editing support for communications and outreach materials
  • Establish and manage relationships with consultants such as graphic designers, photographers, translators, printers, and mail houses; monitor quality of deliverables
  • Coordinate printing and delivery of marketing materials and mass mailings
  • Establish and maintain schedules for production and deliverables
  • Identify and monitor opportunities for OSF presence at community events
  • Support events coordination for OSF and for schools
  • Maintain calendar of events for OSF and for schools
  • Analyze and track success of communications and outreach initiatives
  • Support development and implementation of OSF communications and outreach plan
  • Support development and implementation of results-driven outreach and promotional campaigns for clients
  • Support strategic planning for Communications and Outreach department
  • Manage and support development of organizational systems and structures to drive communications and outreach work, including Salesforce
  • Manage community outreach data entry in Salesforce
  • Produce weekly tracking report for school communications and outreach projects
  • Keep Communications and Outreach team on track to meet deliverables and deadlines outlined in school outreach tracking report
  • Maintain list of consultants and vendors supporting communications and outreach work
  • Maintain and grow list of vendors, businesses, and organizations that support and provide resources for schools
  • Maintain and develop communications and outreach operational documents and materials
  • Maintain communications and outreach archives for OSF and for schools
  • Conduct research to support community outreach for OSF and for schools
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development trainings
  • Perform other tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree of relevant area and/ or equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrated experience with project management and client service
  • Demonstrated experience with campaign development and execution
  • Experience working with K-12 public schools highly desired
  • Excellent written and oral communication; must be able to communicate articulately and sensitively with clients and co-workers
  • Experience in graphic design highly desired
  • Experience with InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop, and/or Dreamweaver
  • Facility with advanced data-base software; experience with Salesforce desired
  • Familiarity with Web-based content management systems
  • Experience managing social media accounts, namely Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Successful background in community and customer relations, project management, budget management, and fundraising or other campaigns
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to organize assignments and prioritize work effectively
  • Must have valid driver’s license, proof of car insurance, and use of an automobile
  • Demonstrate the ability to meet and maintain federal, state, local and Oakland Schools Foundation guidelines including, but not limited to, fingerprint clearance and negative TB test

Compensation:

$35,200 to $38,400 annual salary ($44,000-$48,000 at 80% time), depending on experience; exempt, part-time, 32 hours per week, plus benefits.
