Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies - Development Specialist
The Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, located in Millbrook, NY, seeks a full-time Development Specialist. Position will be responsible for identifying and selecting appropriate foundations and corporations to be cultivated. Preparing letters of inquiry and grant proposals. Preparing basic overview of Cary Institute and its main programs to be used as introduction sections for letters of inquiry and foundation grant proposals. Editing and adapting scientific program descriptions to meet selected foundation/corporation requirements. Assembling text and required submission elements to prepare final proposal. Help research and identify individual prospects that are philanthropic to like-minded organizations. Track prospects/actions in Raiser’s Edge database.
The successful candidate will have 3-5 years experience in grant writing and editing in a not-for-profit organization (environment or science-based a plus). Strong writing skills are essential, as is knowledge of fundraising principles, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Raiser’s Edge database, and an ability to conduct internet research. Applicants must also have excellent organizational skills, a professional demeanor, an eye for detail, and the ability to multi-task and work collaboratively as part of a team.
