The César E. Chávez Institute is a research center within the College of Ethnic Studies, at San Francisco State University. CCI is dedicated to examining, documenting, and providing strategies to address issue confronting communities of color in the United States, particularly in the areas of health, education and self-determination. We seek to serve as a bridge between academic research and community empowerment: Community partners are not merely the objects of research and intervention, but active participants in the formulation of the research question, in the investigation process, and/or in the meaningful documentation of findings. As the research branch of the College of Ethnic Studies, we support the missions of the College through innovative projects and programs that strengthen scholarly research and community engagement.
We are seeking a research analyst to assist CCI’s Director and faculty with: Management and implementation of research projects, including project design and coordination, data collection, data analysis and report generation. There may be some proposal development and writing for funded research. He/she will provide leadership for the Capacity Building Initiative for research activities at local community-based organizations, including evaluation of agency processes, impact and outcomes.
Education/Knowledge
Graduation from a four-year college or university. In-depth understanding of research design, implementation and management, including complex statistical analysis methods.
Experience
Demonstrated experience and ability in: Literature reviews; strategic planning for research and program evaluation; working with community organizations, government agencies, or private organizations; research project coordination, including training and supervising community field data collection efforts; data management; quantitative data analysis and computer programming expertise; reporting and presentation of findings.
Abilities
To plan, organize, conduct and participate in administrative and analytical studies; approach problems objectively; present findings and recommendations clearly and diplomatically; reconcile various divergent points of view to the extent possible; utilize complex statistical and analytical research methods; draw conclusions and develop recommendations; prepare written reports; develop and maintain high-level contacts; work independently; help conduct meetings and negotiations; oversee project staff and client (CBO) support; clear writing and editing.
Preferred Qualifications
Four years experience with progressive responsibility in capacity building in community agencies in the area of research and evaluation; experience with online surveys.
