Development and Communications Coordinator, Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment
The Development & Communications Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director to organize
the Rose Foundation’s development activities and communications, especially donor-related
communications. In addition to the ED, the Coordinator regularly interfaces with senior grantmaking and
educational program staff and the board of directors. While there is strong career growth potential, this is
a hands-on position with a single shared assistant. For information about the Rose Foundation for

Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Annually create/update a Development Plan with quantitative/qualitative goals, and generally
coordinate all aspects of plan implementation. This includes helping staff and board members
understand their roles and deliverables in the process, and periodically tracking and reporting on
the progress of various elements;
- Coordinate individual donor solicitations, including house parties, events, annual giving program,
special appeals and major donor outreach. In 2013 there will be an emphasis on producing a cycle
of planned activities related to the Rose Foundation’s 20th anniversary;
- Coordinate outreach to institutional and governmental funders, including prospect research,
proposal writing, producing standard and customized reports, and coordinating needed input from
program and operations staff;
- Maintain and enhance the quality and content of Rose Foundation communications on an overall
basis, including print and electronic newsletters, list serves, website, social media, various charity
directory listings, and generally develop and disseminate marketing materials describing the Rose
Foundation and its services;
- Interface with operations staff regarding data management, donor tracking and
acknowledgements;
- Supervise development consultants and interns as needed, including grantwriting and video
specialists.
Qualifications Must have at least 3-5 years' nonprofit experience including a solid mix of grantwriting, special events,
marketing and communications, as well as an understanding of environmental or youth development
issues. Highly organized with an understanding of office and computer systems. BA degree or higher.
Familiarity with the Bay Area or California funding climate and experience working with volunteers
preferred. Social media and web experience a plus.
Compensation:
Commensurate with background and experience; includes full health, dental, vision and 401(k).
