Communications and Events Manager

Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts - Communications and Events Manager The Bemis Center is seeking a communications professional with experience in both traditional and social media. We’re looking for a versatile writer who can tailor our message to fit any platform, from traditional press packets to 140-character tweets. Job Summary: The Communications and Events Manager for the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is an integral part of the Bemis Center’s Marketing team. Primary responsibilities include the development and distribution of publicity, marketing materials and managing internal and external events. This position will work directly with the Media Director and the Director of Operations to ensure the ongoing viability and promotion of the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. The Communications and Events Manager reports directly to the Executive Director.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Communications:

  • Develop clear, concise copy and content for press releases, website updates, print materials and social media networks ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms;
  • Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with key online, print and broadcast media representatives;
  • Identify and solicit media opportunities for special events, exhibition openings, individual artists and staff members;
  • Promote organization at events and in media interviews;
  • Distribute news releases and media alerts and follow-up with phone and email communications;
  • Arrange interviews with print, television and radio media representatives;
  • Maintain photo and video image files to facilitate print and digital media requests. Track all print and digital media for archival purposes;
  • Identify and develop new media contacts and maintain database of local, regional, national and international press contacts.

Events:

  • Manage Bemis Center master calendar of all events and programs;
  • Develop and implement internal and external events budget;
  • Maintain event business development with new and established customers;
  • Work with vendors, caterers and clients to plan and execute external events Work directly with Bemis Center staff to plan and execute internal events;
  • Manage Bemis Center master art auction calendar and timeline.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Journalism, Communications or Marketing, or equivalent years of experience in those fields;
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
  • Experience in copy writing preferred;
  • Experience in event planning and coordination preferred;
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to create and build relationships;
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated and proactive;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including some nights and weekends;
  • Must be able to work within given deadlines;
  • Proven public speaking skills to both small and large groups;
  • Must possess high-energy, outgoing personality;
  • Must be able to lift 20lbs;
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office, Adobe, Gmail and Google Documents and Calendar.
