The Director of Foundation Relations and Stewardship, reporting to the Vice President for Development, will serve as a senior member of the Development Team. S/he will be responsible for planning and directing fund-raising strategies to secure annual and multi-year gifts and grants and to ensure, through exemplary stewardship, long-term relationships with foundation donors. The Director will work closely with senior administration and faculty. S/he will have access to volunteer leadership and physicians to identify prospective foundation donors and implement solicitation and cultivation strategies, including proposal submission and report preparation. The Director will also oversee department’s donor relations/stewardship program.
Responsibilities:

Working closely with the VP for Development, create and implement a strategic plan that will undergird and advance relationships and support for Joslin from foundations.

Design an aggressive program focused on cultivating, rating, soliciting and stewarding foundation gifts of $100,000 and above with the intent of increasing revenue from these sources.

Continuously evaluate and make recommendations for future growth of the Foundation Relations Area including long-term revenue projections.

Creatively build and sustain innovative programs in collaboration with physicians and researchers with the intent of attracting new philanthropic support to the Center.

Develop foundation proposals on behalf of Joslin Diabetes Center that include program narratives, budgets, letters of support and collaboration, CVs of researchers, etc. according to specific requirements of individual foundations.

Create annual reporting/stewardship plans, in collaboration with the Manager, Donor Relations, for each foundation grant and gift received with the intention of strengthening relationships with donors. Work with the Finance Department to transfer and report on funds as necessary.

Work closely with the Manager, Donor Relations to streamline and maximize impact of endowment reports to Joslin donors, as well as provide guidance on the development of specific project reports for all development officers.

Actively participate as a key member of in major gifts fundraising, including on prospect cultivation, coordination and management.

Continuously pursue educational opportunities to learn best practices in the area of grant writing, research, moves management, stewardship and recognition.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree
-
A minimum of 10 years of fundraising experience, with at least 5 years of direct responsibility for foundation /corporate foundation giving

Demonstrated success in soliciting $100,000+ in foundation/corporate foundation gifts

Proven successful supervisory skills and experience

Demonstrated ability to creatively build and sustain innovative programs in collaboration with physicians and researchers

Superior written and verbal communication skills

An entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to make an impact in a fast-paced, team oriented environment Interest and motivation to proactively build and sustain relationships with top foundations
