The Boys & Girls Club of Newark is inviting candidates to apply for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of our Newark effort. The Boys & Girls Club of Newark (BGCN) has been a growing support system for thousands of Newark families and children for over 70 years. BGCN is a non-profit, non-sectarian, privately operated youth development organization, which serves youth throughout the city of Newark. The mission of BGCN is to provide youth with opportunities that empower them to succeed and excel as contributing members of society.

Job Responsibilities:
The CEO’s job responsibilities include:

Provide strong strategic vision and leadership to organization. Continually develop existing programs and networks. Oversees all organizational changes and operations.

Perform hands on leadership of the Newark facilities' day to day operations. Provide direct supervision to leadership team of approximately three executive staff, seventeen full-time professionals and indirect supervision to 35 part-time professionals. Exercise responsibility for recruiting, training, mentoring and developing the staff. Partner with staff on member recruitment, event coordination and daily functions and programs within the organization.

Partner with the Board and staff for new program ideas and changes to meet the organizational goals. Communicate updates on a regular basis to the Board of Directors. Help recruit new members to the board.

Develop new fundraising strategies for organization (i.e. cultivating major fundraising relationships and managing current relationships). Responsible for Public Relation updates and presentations to the Newark community. Cultivate strong relationships with the community leaders and residents of Newark.

Oversee development of annual budget (human capital and operationally). Control expenditures against a budget of approximately $2,000,000.

Maintain quality reviews and other policies to mitigate risks and insure a safe environment. Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Job Qualifications:
Strong candidates will have these minimum job qualifications:

Substantial leadership and management experience, including several years of experience managing successful teams.

Familiarity with the development, evaluation, and delivery of effective and innovative programming related to the mission of BGCN. Understanding of education, out-of-school time and the extended learning world would be an advantage.

Proven skills to be a dynamic fundraiser and marketer, with the ability to secure financial support from diverse sources – individual major donors, and private and corporate foundations – particularly in a climate of increasing constraints and shrinking resources.

Evidence of successful experience with strategic planning and positioning of an organization, as well as building a healthy and vibrant organizational culture.

Evidence of supporting and developing strong management teams and encouraging professional development among staff members.

A track record of sound financial management, budgeting and diversifying revenue streams.

Experience with facilities management and capital planning.

Entrepreneurial self-starter; capable of self-managing in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders including success establishing and fostering strong partnerships with board members, public officials, schools and members of the community

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in the area of nonprofit business/human services, education or other related discipline required. Relevant advanced degree preferred.
