Asian Cultural Council (ACC) is a publicly-supported operating foundation (501(c)3) that supports transformative cultural exchange by awarding grants to artists and cultural scholars, arts and humanities professionals, as well as organizations from Asia and the United States for research, study and creative work. Since its inception in 1963, ACC has provided grants to nearly 6,000 American and Asian individuals and organizations. ACC primarily develops programs specifically tailored to the needs and interests of each of its grant recipients and fosters ongoing dialogue between and among its grantees through a robust network of contacts across disciplines and across the globe. ACC supports its efforts by seeking funding from individuals, foundations, and corporations with an interest in and dedication to strengthening ties between the United States and the countries of Asia. With headquarters in New York City, ACC maintains small offices in Hong Kong and Tokyo and partner foundations in Manila and Taipei.

Position Summary: The Director of ACC Hong Kong reports directly to the Director of Asia based in ACC’s headquarters in New York City. In collaboration with ACC New York and ACC’s Hong Kong Friends’ Committee, he/she will direct activities to ensure the integrity of ACC Hong Kong’s programs and its leadership role in the community. He/She will lead the transition of the current operational model to one that continues to be relevant, innovative, and sustainable, and will oversee day-to-day operations, including grant making, fundraising, governance, finance, communications and staff development.

Working Relationships

Reports to Asia Director, Asian Cultural Council, New York, NY

Directly supervises two ACC HK staff members - Program Officer, Office Manager

Manages a range of internal and external relationships: ACC staff in Manila, Taipei, Tokyo and New York; ACC Board of Trustees; ACC Hong Kong Friends’ Committee; ACC current and potential donors including individuals, foundations, corporations, and the government; ACC grantees and alumni; media/press; cultural and educational leaders in Asia.

Key Responsibilities:

Programs:

  • Supports 50th Anniversary strategy (Spring 2013 to December 2014 ) and on-going program/grant work;
  • Directs the administration of grant making program (application process, interviews, selection of recipients) and collaborates with ACC Director of Programs in New York on overall strategy;
  • Maintains and builds relationships with ACC alumni in Hong Kong and China.

Development:

  • Leads 50th Anniversary fundraising efforts in ACC Hong Kong based on financial targets set collaboratively with ACC New York and the Hong Kong Friends’ Committee;
  • Builds and maintains all ACC Hong Kong-based donor relationships;
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by ACC’s Asia Director.

Finance:

  • Oversees all financial matters of ACC Hong Kong office and works with ACC New York to set, monitor, and achieve annual financial goals.

Communications:

  • Directs communications strategy for ACC Hong Kong in collaboration with New York;
  • Oversees publication of brochures, flyers, printed materials, etc., as well as online/social media;
  • Serves as ACC liaison with the media and represents ACC at exhibitions, conferences, performances, etc.

Operations:

  • Oversees office maintenance;
  • Ensures Human Resource procedures are followed appropriately;

Position Specifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in the arts, development, and/or nonprofit management;
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a Master’s Degree preferred;
  • Highly capable writer and editor, as well as an articulate public speaker; ability to represent the ACC positively to key constituents and the public;
  • Ability to work well with people and be a “team player” with a positive outlook;
  • Sensitivity and understanding of Asian culture and relationships;
  • Access to Hong Kong business and cultural communities;
  • Experience working in Asia and cross-cultural environments+;
  • Language fluency in written and spoken English; Mandarin and/or Cantonese preferred;
  • Availability to attend performances/events on evenings and weekends;
  • Ability to travel within Asia and occasionally to New York;
  • Proficient in technology and social media.

Compensation: Generous annual salary plus benefits.
