Educational Alliance - Grant Writer

The Educational Alliance is a non-profit organization that changes lives. Founded in 1889 to help Jewish immigrants get settled in the U.S., we currently serve 50,000 New Yorkers annually, a broad and diverse group of all religions, ethnicities, races and socio-economic backgrounds.

The Alliance is seeking a talented and resourceful Grant Writer to perform a variety of writing, research, and project management tasks to help us expand and diversify income from both private foundation and public sources.

The Grant Writer will write, edit and proofread proposals, reports, and contract documents for foundation, corporate, and government funders; research public and private grant agencies to identify new sources of funding; project manage proposal and report preparation, including setting project timelines and deadlines for various staff around the Agency; review, understand and interpret complicated RFPs and other funding announcements; manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously; work closely with program and administrative staff to develop proposals and prepare reports; write acknowledgement letters and other correspondence.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required. Two to three years of related experience in writing government and foundation grants, as well as a proven track record of success in securing grants from public and/or private sources preferred. Must have excellent project management skills, be able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously, be able to work well with others – including a degree of comfort managing upwards and working as part of a team of writers – be highly detail oriented, and be able to assimilate facts into writing accurately and easily. Must be able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality, have the capacity to work under the constant pressure of multiple deadlines, and be self-motivated to keep projects moving independent of supervisor. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational and computer skills. Knowledge of MS Word and Excel required. Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge and facility with conducting web-based research a plus. An interest in Social Services and Education fields also a plus.
