As part of a Division-wide team, this Senior Corporate and Foundation Officer cultivates, solicits and stewards support from Fortune 500 companies and top foundations to meet annual fundraising goals within their Division. This role includes developing cultivation and solicitation strategies, creating proposals for funding priorities, coordinating activities with other Development units and with chapters to maximize gift potential. This position supervises associate staff assigned to the Division. The Senior Officer also serves as the main point-of-contact between the national Program Office and fundraisers in their Division to maximize greatest opportunities.
Responsibilities:
Manages a portfolio of top corporate and foundation prospects donors desiring a national relationship with six or seven figure capacity. Responsible for annual fundraising goal ($3,000,000 for the current fiscal year) as specified in performance standards, including both renewable gifts and new incremental revenue. Assists corporations in achieving their goals in strengthening their brand, marketing, and employee engagement by being proficient at clearly articulating Red Cross programs, listening to corporations’ needs, and aligning Red Cross programs with corporations’ interests. Personally solicits assigned donor portfolio, including preparation of personalized material when needed. Develops fundraising strategies for assignments and takes primary responsibility for fulfillment and stewardship. Consults on overarching corporate engagement and foundation relations strategies to help the Division meet its fundraising goals. Works collaboratively with other departments and partners with development staff at the National Office, including as liaison to Program Office, to create customized solicitation strategies matching the objectives of the organization and interests of the donor/prospect. Customizes proposals and presentations to meet both donor intention and organizational needs, including cash gifts, cause-marketing campaigns and employee giving campaigns. Sets metrics and prepares reports relevant to progress, impact and stewardship. Collaborates with other corporate and foundation fundraisers and Development units, fostering strong working relationships and effective communication.
Participates in disaster relief fundraising projects as appropriate. May provide corporate and foundation giving resources and training to Red Cross field representatives. Updates donor records in chapter database and Salesforce.com following donor contacts.
Manages associate level staff assigned to the Division.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Communications, Business, Organizational Development or a relevant field. A minimum of seven years experience with demonstrated success in major gifts and/or corporate fundraising and/or sales. Extensive knowledge of fundraising, sales and/or marketing principles/techniques in large organizations preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong interpersonal, negotiation and liaison skills. Must display tact and diplomacy in difficult or sensitive situations. Ability to operate independently and deal effectively and persuasively with management and staff. Demonstrated management and mentoring skills. Ability to build alliances and gain team consensus. Comfortable working under pressure in a rapidly changing and multidimensional environment is essential. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is necessary and experience with a donor management system (like Raiser’s Edge) is highly preferred. Operational flexibility to meet sudden and unpredictable business needs, willingness to work outside standard established business hours, and 25-50% of business travel are required.
