Texas Medical Center Library - Development Director
The Texas Medical Center (TMC) Library is a major research library serving Texas Medical Center researchers, clinicians and students, including two major medical schools and over 20 member institutions. The Library is also the Regional Medical Library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine South Central Region, with responsibility for providing health information to health professionals and consumers in the five state region of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.
The TMC Library seeks an experienced, energetic and resourceful development director. This individual will be responsible for the oversight and management of all fundraising efforts. The Director will work with consultants and staff to develop and implement fundraising strategies to secure gift revenue from individuals, corporations, government, charitable foundations, and additional sources.
Duties:

Plan and administer all fund-raising programs and activities

Develop and coordinate any and all capital campaigns for buildings, expansions, and other programs

Implement a strategic and sustainable fund development program; establish goals, benchmarks and metrics for evaluation of fundraising procedures

Research funding prospects and implement appropriate funding strategies to raise funds annually in the areas of corporate/foundation, government, charitable and individual giving

Cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors while developing strategies for increasing donor base

Oversee all funder relationships and ensure that all program activities meet funders’ standards and regulations

Work in concert with the Executive Director to support the Board of Directors; lead efforts to engage the Board in fundraising, and work closely with the Friends Coordinator in fundraising activities

Increase the visibility of The Texas Medical Center Library through strategic fundraising and marketing initiatives

Build reports, run queries, and maintain accurate records in database

Create and provide regular detailed accountability reports on the Library’s fundraising operations

Oversee preparation and production of all promotional mailings and web communications as related to fundraising

Prepare clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive grant proposals

Performs other duties as assigned
Additional Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with members of other departments to ensure client needs are met
- Provides assistance and support to librarians and staff when needed
- Completes all activities toward the fulfillment of the Library mission and strategic objectives
- Collaborates with others to create an atmosphere of enthusiasm and commitment
- Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages teamwork, interdependence, and customer service
- Continually increases technical competency of self and others through education and research within their field
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor’s Degree; 5+ years of experience in fundraising; proven track record in meeting fundraising goals; grant writing; knowledge of legality and methodology in fundraising; exemplary organization, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to travel
Preferred: Master’s Degree; nonprofit experience; AFP certification; CFRE certification; experience with fundraising database software (e.g. Raiser’s Edge, eTapestry); strong knowledge of Harris County’s business and medical organizations; strong knowledge of foundations
