Primary areas of responsibility include management of state organization finances, day-to-day operations of the state office, state programs (including planning for annually-recurring events), state office personnel, NCRSP public relations (including publication of the state newsletter and relationship management with other state and national organizations), and member services. While not serving in a lobbying capacity, the Executive Director will be registered as a lobbyist with the state of NC so as to be able to act in support of NCRSP’s paid lobbyists.
The ideal candidate for the Executive Director position would meet the following qualifications or experience:

Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; additional education or training in business management or non-profit management is desirable.

Have at least five years’ experience in operational, administrative, personnel, and financial management (including interpretation of standard financial reports); should include at least two years of experience at department head level or above.

Have at least two years’ experience with the financial administration of an IRS-certified non-profit entity, to include federal and state tax filings.

Have previously demonstrated the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people from widely diverse social and generational demographics.

Be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Have at least a basic knowledge of the NC Teachers and State Employees Retirement System and the NC State Health Plan for Teachers and State Employees.

Have at least intermediate expertise in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Have intermediate experience with Microsoft Windows, including Windows configuration, security, and maintenance.

Must be available for short-term travel (1 week or less) about six times per year.
Application Instructions
This will be either a three-quarter or full-time position, with a final determination to be made after interviews have been completed. The full-time salary range is $45-60k, depending upon abilities and experience. No relocation allowance. Applicants should indicate in the cover letter whether they are interested in a three-quarter or full-time position or both.
Two writing samples are required: A formal report (3-5 pages; may be redacted to obfuscate personal information) and an article that has been or could be published in a special-interest newsletter or magazine (2-3 pages).
