Viking Global Investors - Grants Manager
Viking Global Foundation is a newly established foundation with dual goals: as an organization, to invest in our communities, and as individual employees, to meaningfully engage in a philanthropic culture. The grantmaking program will focus on helping to close the achievement gap for young, at-risk children and setting them on a course for academic and lifelong success.
Viking Global Investors is a global long-short equity hedge fund manager with approximately $16 billion in assets under management. Our offices are located in Greenwich, CT, New York City, London and Hong Kong. This role reports to the Executive Director of the Foundation and is based in Greenwich.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Research
-
Provide research on trends and opportunities in the Foundation’s funding areas (i.e. current legislation, new initiatives, non-profit practices)
Grantmaking
-
Assist with grant making process, including working with grant applicants to prepare proposals
-
With Director, review proposals and help analyze financial information from nonprofit organizations for Foundation review
-
Assist in monitoring grant portfolios and participate in meetings on program management and evaluation
-
Prepare materials for use in Steering/Grant Making Committee meetings
-
Proactively maintain data base of proposals and grants (as well as professional contacts and expert resources)

Administrative responsibilities related to the above, including creating meeting minutes and tracking grants
Foundation Program
-
Attend meetings representing (and collecting information for) Foundation as appropriate

Manage on-going Matching Gift program administration (process employee requests, confirm qualification of nonprofit organizations, coordinate tracking w Finance)

Support Employee Engagement program; collaborate with colleagues in planning and scheduling meetings/events and coordinating volunteer activities
Administration
-
Provide administrative support to Director (phone coverage; meeting scheduling, conference calls, travel; prepare expense reports)

Draft reports and correspondence as directed (i.e. power point presentations, grant letters, meeting follow up)

Respond to an array of internal and external inquiries
PROFESSIONAL PERSONALITY

Strong interpersonal skills; able to correspond with all levels of contacts inside and outside the organization

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Computer proficiency (MS Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel and Word)

Strong analytic abilities

Organized with ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks

Takes ownership, works independently, and follows through on projects; communicates progress and requests help as needed

Naturally intuitive and discreet; comfortable working with confidential information
EXPERIENCE / BACKGROUND
-
A completed 4 year degree with a good GPA is required
-
3+ years of work (or related training) experience
-
Demonstrated commitment to philanthropy/nonprofit sector

Proficiency in Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel and Word
-
Experience working in grants management (familiarity with foundation policies, due diligence, database systems) preferred
-
Experience in child development/education preferred
