About The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME):

Founded in 1934, the NBOME is an independent, nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization that protects the public by providing the means to assess competencies for osteopathic medicine and related health care professions. The NBOME is recognized for excellence in the national and the international arena of physician testing and evaluation. The NBOME staff lead the talents and contributions of hundreds of professionals from all around the country who have responsibility and expertise in the health professions, medical practice, medical education and evaluation, and physician licensure and regulation. Together these individuals comprise the numerous NBOME committees that perform a wide array of duties regarding high quality test development, continuous quality improvement, continuous professional development, innovations in testing, and research initiatives that support the NBOME’s mission. NBOME is governed by a Board of Directors and the finance and audit functions are overseen by board-appointed committees.

Our Corporate Offices are located in the Chicago (O’Hare Airport) region, and the NBOME National Center for Clinical Skills Testing and Executive Offices are based in Philadelphia (Conshohocken) area. The Senior Vice President for Cognitive Testing is located in the Chicago office.

About the Position:

The NBOME is seeking a Senior Vice President (SVP) for Cognitive Testing to lead the Division of Cognitive Testing. The SVP will be responsible for the operational oversight of all aspects of cognitive testing at NBOME, including test development, psychometric operations, research, and test administration for the COMLEX-USA licensure examinations and other NBOME assessment products. The SVP will also serve as the senior physician clinical content expert for the department.

The SVP will join a team of dynamic leaders and a staff that is passionate about the NBOME’s mission of protecting the public by providing the means to assess competencies for osteopathic medicine and related health care professions. He/she will report directly to the NBOME President/CEO, and lead a staff that includes a VP for Cognitive Testing and Research, as well as numerous other staff members, contracted individuals (e.g., physician contracted personnel), exempt and non-exempt staff members, and a large dedicated volunteer workforce. The SVP for Cognitive Testing works predominantly from the NBOME Corporate Offices in Chicago, but, from time-to-time, from the NBOME Executive Offices in Philadelphia as well. The SVP for Cognitive Testing must be willing and able to travel fairly regularly.

Requirements:

  • D.O. degree from an AOA-COCA accredited college or school of osteopathic medicine is required
  • A Ph.D. and/or Masters Degree preferred
  • Must have completed a residency program
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in academic environment (e.g., medical school, graduate medical education, testing organization) and experience in testing, accreditation, and regulation preferred
  • Will likely have recent clinical practice experience (within 3-5 years) and have an active medical license
  • AOA-BOS Active/Updated Board Certification in a clinical specialty with preference given to generalist discipline (e.g., Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Geriatrics)
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, as evidenced by track record of published manuscripts in peer-reviewed academic and/or clinical journals. Superlative fund of knowledge and cognitive skills as evidenced by prior COMLEX-USA or NBOME examination scores, board certification or recertification examination scores
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and team leadership skills
