Smuin Ballet - Director of Development
Smuin Ballet, a San Francisco-based ballet company with a $3.5 million operating budget, is currently seeking a qualified person for the position of Director of Development in this established, 18-year old non-profit organization.
The position requires the Director to oversee the operation of the department, working with an experienced staff of two. They will be responsible for:

Preparing the annual departmental budget

Supervising and directing both the staff and any volunteers who serve in the department
-
Playing a central role in maintaining and developing, at all levels of giving, strategies for maintaining and building the donor base
-
Acting as an advocate for the Company; its quality, its contributions and its possibilities
-
Identifying and soliciting major donors, both individual and corporate
-
Formalizing a planned giving program
-
Directing the major gift campaign and the annual giving campaigns
-
Overseeing the annual gala preparations
-
Preparing reports to the Artistic & Executive Director and the Board of Trustees as required

Setting monthly fundraising goals
An essential requirement for this position is an appreciation of the art form as well as an appreciation of the contributions that Smuin Ballet makes to enrich the cultural life of San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. The successful candidate should:

Be goal oriented, highly organized and detail oriented

Have exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills

Work well with people across various social strata

Be able to both multi-task and work under deadlines and pressure

Think creatively and play a central role in providing the financial support to a Company that enjoys both critical praise and potential for future growth
Required qualifications include:
-
5 - 7 years experience in non-profit development at the senior staff level
-
A successful fundraising record with organizations of similar budget size and goals
-
2+ years in soliciting major gifts
-
The personal and professional skill sets to achieve ambitious goals
