American Red Cross - Manager, Development Opportunities

The Manager of Development Opportunities is part of the Development Opportunities unit and is responsible for packaging the American Red Cross’ highest priority initiatives into fundraising materials and tools that resonate and inspire donors to support the organization. This position leads a team that designs and develops high-quality standard and customized fundraising collateral that will support fundraisers in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate, foundation, and individual donors, including proposals, sales decks, case statements, stewardship reports as well as highly customized materials for strategic partnership solicitations ($20+ million asks). In addition, He/She will ensure fundraisers across the organization are using the highest quality materials that speak in “one voice”, help fundraisers talk about the Red Cross’ work locally, nationally, and internationally, and train fundraisers to sell fundraising packages that reflect the organization’s highest priorities.

Responsibilities:

Packaging the American Red Cross’ highest priority initiatives into fundraising materials and tools that resonate and inspire donors to support the organization’s work locally, nationally and internationally. Liaison with the Corporate and Foundation Partnerships team as well as Individual and Major Gifts team on proposals and donor segment strategies; oversees that the development and design of materials meets the business needs and revenue goals of the fundraisers. Ensures that materials developed by the team are of the highest quality, are available in a cost-efficient manner for all fundraisers, and product marketing in place with a special emphasis on engaging fundraisers in top markets that have the greatest potential for revenue. Seeks to develop cutting edge donor engagement resources and tools that will establish Red Cross fundraising materials as innovative, best-in-class, and result in increased revenue. Integrates the content from the Lines of Business in all fundraising materials and ensures the organization is speaking in “one voice.” Establishes and manages the review and approval process involving the Communications and Marketing units for all fundraising materials, including business cases, proposals, stewardship reports, and benefit delivery. Evaluates the impact and effectiveness of fundraising materials developed and training conducted by the team. Seeks constituent feedback, incorporates lessons learned, and adjusts strategies and processes as needed. Hires, trains, supervises and mentors department personnel.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience required; advanced degree highly desirable. Minimum of seven years fundraising or marketing leadership experience, especially in a large organization. Three years of supervisory experience. Progressive experiences in successfully developing programs and knowledge of “best practices” in development. Business management skills including budgeting and financial management, human resources management, and project and program management. Proven leader with the ability to build, motivate, manage and develop strong teams. Track record of providing clear direction and business solutions to maximize individual and team performances, and will lead by example. Strong team player who has a collaborative style and builds trust and respect. Excellent verbal and written skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is necessary and experience with a donor management system (like Raiser’s Edge) is highly preferred.

Operational flexibility to meet sudden and unpredictable business needs, willingness to work outside standard established business hours, and 25% of business travel are required.
