The Corporate and Foundation Programs unit is the central office through which high quality, consistent fundraising programs and platforms are created that reflect the organization’s fundable strategic opportunities. It is also the primary office though which corporate, foundation and new market strategy is developed to maximize fundraising locally, regionally, nationally and globally.

The Director of Corporate and Foundation Programs is responsible for developing the fundraising strategy for institutions (corporations and foundations) at the American Red Cross. As a member of the leadership team, this position ensures the strategy for maximizing gifts is embedded in all fundraising materials. He/She will lead a development team in creating new programs to take advantage of maximizing the corporate and foundation channels and liaison with fundraisers to foster strong working relationships and understand needs for institutional donors. This position ensures sound administration, including strategic planning, fiscal management and personnel management for the unit. The Director also counsels the executive staff and leadership regarding assigned programs and unit priorities.

Responsibilities:

Develops and manages the strategy, tactics and programs to maximize fundraising locally, regionally, nationally and globally in the corporate and foundation channels. Provides strategic counsel to fundraisers on the highest level solicitations and offers subject expertise to expand and enhance corporate and foundation partnerships. Manages staff in execution of tactical plans for channel-specific program strategy and implementation like membership programs and middle market solutions as well as the delivery of benefits. Administers structured opportunities for fundraisers to interact, share best practices, and learn about donor opportunities within the channel. Reviews fundraising materials to ensure that it aligns the organization’s priorities with donor interest, and inspires donors to support the Red Cross. Seeks constituent feedback, incorporates lessons learned, and adjusts strategies and processes as needed. Sets metrics and prepares reports relevant to progress, impact and effectiveness of fundraising strategies and materials. Hires, trains, supervises and mentors department personnel. Creates and implements goals, objectives and action plans in support of unit priorities. Maintains budgetary responsibility and accountability. Ensures that all goals are met by the team. Provides guidance to senior management and volunteer leadership regarding strategies and objectives for assigned programs. Provides leadership and coordination when the unit is called upon to support fundraising for episodic disaster relief. Coordinates services and support with other Development and field units to ensure continuity and integration at all levels of the organization. Develops and maintains policies and systems that will enhance the overall effectiveness of fundraising activities, record keeping and prospect tracking.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience). A minimum of ten years of related fundraising experience (with a minimum five years in a supervisory capacity) is essential. Business management skills (including budgeting and finance, human resources, project and program development). Successful record of collaboration with field units is essential and experience planning and coordinating major projects at the national level. Familiarity and experience with Red Cross services and corporate culture is desirable. A high degree of organizational, analytical and project management skills, including ability to anticipate risks and a creative approach to problem solving. Evidence of strong leadership skills, including setting visions, defining strategy and communicating them to others. Motivation, strong initiative and ability to foster collaborative teamwork. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong presentation, liaison and negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and persuasively with diverse people. Demonstrated tact and diplomacy in difficult or sensitive situations. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience using a donor management system (like Raiser’s Edge). Operational flexibility to meet sudden and unpredictable business needs, willingness to work outside standard established work hours and a moderate amount (25-30%) of business travel are required.
