Director, Architecture and Technology

CFY is a national education nonprofit that helps students in low-income communities, together with their teachers and families, harness the power of digital learning to improve educational outcomes.

CFY pursues this mission through the combination of its groundbreaking K-12 learning platform, PowerMyLearning.com, and its on-the-ground direct service initiative, the CFY Digital Learning Program. PowerMyLearning makes best-in-class digital learning activities easily accessible and usable to meet the full range of K-12 learning needs. It is an integral part of CFY’s Digital Learning Program which is conducted in partnership with low-income public schools to increase home technology access, extend learning beyond the classroom, and deeply engage parents in the learning process. The program provides training for teachers, students and their parents along with a free broadband-ready home computer loaded with educational software and 24×7 bilingual help desk support.

To date, CFY has served more than 50,000 families from 100 schools nationwide and has demonstrated significant impact on student achievement, student engagement, parental confidence, and broadband adoption. To extend the impact of its work even further, CFY operates an Affiliate Network of over 30 organizations in more than 20 states and the District of Columbia.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Director of Architecture and Technology is a new, cutting-edge position at CFY. This person will be responsible for developing and executing the architectural strategy and technical implementation for incorporating a range of front-office and back-office applications and services for PowerMyLearning. The technical implementation will provide a key set of services and capabilities, which will encompass the PowerMyLearning platform.

The Director of Architecture and Technology will report to the Managing Director of PowerMyLearning and work closely with the Director of Product Management, the Director of Assessment, and the Director of Content.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate with the Managing Director, Director of Product Management, and Director of Content in developing and refining the PowerMyLearning architecture and technical roadmap.
• Manage the back-office systems for data management, content management, and internal service management layer.
• Manage the front-office systems which include learning management systems, user authentication/entitlement systems, site provisioning, external service management layer, and user feature development.
• Manage development and support team to provide new applications, features, and maintenance support of the PowerMyLearning platform.
• Manage the PowerMyLearning platform hosting and infrastructure.
• Manage 3rd party development and technology vendors, which support the PowerMyLearning platform.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

• Passion for CFY’s mission.
• Successful prior experience developing and launching technology platforms which support customers and content.
• At least seven years' experience with organizations that develop online environments.
• Strong knowledge of web services standards and best practices.
• Strong architectural experience with integrating multiple technologies and systems.
• Strong communication and analysis skills.
• BA in computer science (or technical degree).
