Robin Hood Foundation - Program Officer, Early Childhood and Youth
Robin Hood fights poverty in New York City. It does so by finding and funding over 200 of the most effective poverty-fighting organizations in the city's poorest neighborhoods. They include schools, job-training agencies, early-childhood and youth organizations, emergency food providers, medical facilities, shelters, housing agencies and a whole lot more.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the position will manage Robin Hood’s relationship with a set of grantees within the Early Childhood & Youth portfolio. Using Robin Hood emphasis on metrics, this position will monitor, analyze and report on performance of existing Grantees. In addition, the position will assess and develop detailed written recommendations for potential new Grantees as well as the continuation of current funding.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manage relationship with a group of Robin Hood grantees by:
-
Monitoring performance through analysis of outcome data, grantee reports and site visits

Providing ongoing consultation to executive directors
-
identifying issues and developing recommendations for management assistance interventions and tracking the progress of these projects

Providing appropriate leadership and support in identifying with Grantees the priorities for intervention
-
Generating grantee contracts outlining specific goals to be achieved over the term of the grant and timing of payments

Establishing methods for quantifying the impact of grantee organization’s services with reference to current research studies and findings.

Conduct research on new poverty-fighting approaches, best practices, public policy and the potential impact of private support to fight poverty.

Source, screen, and structure new grants to community-based organizations and initiatives primarily focused on health disparities. Develop recommendations for funding based on analysis of performance, social return on the foundation’s investment and fit with Robin Hood’s mission.

Draft detailed grant proposals and deliver oral presentations to program staff and board oversight committees.

Work in partnership with Development staff to provide expert program knowledge to enhance donor cultivation efforts.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree, required Advanced Degree (Preferred) or equivalent work experience
Work Experience
- Strong research, writing, and oral presentation skills
- Familiarity with nonprofit operations
- Broad knowledge of social problems, programs and policies
- Understanding of and interest in application of social science research findings to Robin Hood’s grant making
- Self-starter
- Team player
- Strong planning and organizing skills
- Ability to influence internally and external levels as appropriate to achieve objectives
- Strong consultation skills
- Great interpersonal skills and a “customer service” orientation
- Sense of humor
- Passionate about the mission of Robin Hood.
Technical Skills
- Fully conversant with all Microsoft office products
