The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation (ACLU), founded in 1920, is a nationwide, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with more than 500,000 members and is dedicated to the principles of liberty and equality embodied in the U.S. Constitution. The Development Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York City is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Gift Planning Coordinator.
OVERVIEW
The Gift Planning Coordinator will provide support to a rapidly growing Gift Planning Department and will report directly to the Director of Gift Planning.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Track marketing results. Participate in assessing the effectiveness of marketing and cultivation campaigns, and developing strategy.

Manage the segmentation and scheduling of follow-up contacts to over approximately 7,500 planned giving prospects.

Compose, edit and proofread gift appeals, cultivations, and other prospect and donor communications under the direction of the Director of Gift Planning.

Coordinate production of gift appeals, cultivations, and other prospect and donor communications -- in print, email and online, as needed.

Generate initial response packages to direct mail and other inquiries.

Generate cultivation mailings for members of the ACLU’s planned gift recognition society.

Track individual donor activities; maintain and update donors’ gift records on development database; maintain donors’ electronic and paper files.

Generate life income gift illustrations from planned gift software.

Coordinate tasks and projects for two Gift Planning Officers and the Stewardship Officer within the Gift Planning Department.

Conduct research on donors and prospects as necessary in order to prioritize solicitation and stewardship activities.

Produce and monitor reports including but not limited to: prospect tracking reports, contact reports.

Serve as first point of contact within the Gift Planning Department. Manage incoming phone calls, mail and e-mail.

Undertake special projects within the Development Department.

Handle other duties as needed.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
-
Bachelor’s degree preferred and a minimum of two years’ experience required, preferably in fundraising or nonprofit setting. Familiarity with planned gift vehicles preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and proofreading.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to represent the organization to donors as well as interface with all levels of staff at the national office, in the affiliates and with volunteers while maintaining tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects through to completion; superior attention to detail with strong follow-through.

Strong analytical skills; the ability to organize, identify patterns in, and draw conclusions from data.

Ability to multi-task, prioritize and complete assignments under strict deadlines.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Internet usage. Experience with fundraising databases and Business Objects preferred.

Interest in tax, financial and estate planning issues.

Commitment to the mission of the ACLU.
