Project Director, Friends to Fathers

Friends of Island Academy
New York, New York

Friends of Island Academy - Project Director, Friends to Fathers

Friends of Island Academy was created in 1990 to reduce recidivism and promote positive development among young people returning home from incarceration in New York City. The agency’s overall mission is to develop the long-term capacity of high-risk adolescents to become economically independent adults, connected to their communities in positive ways.

Ten years ago, through the introduction of services in responsible fatherhood, we sought to break intergenerational cycles of violence, crime and incarceration through neighborhood-level services and advocacy on behalf of fathers.

Friends has an immediate opening available as Project Director of our Bronx fatherhood program, Friends to Fathers (F2F). We are seeking an individual with the maturity, experience, vision, leadership and commitment to sustain and move the project forward, and to serve as a local and national leader in advocacy around Responsible Fatherhood as it relates to our agency’s mission.

The primary goal of this project is to promote responsible fatherhood in vulnerable communities by increasing fathers’ engagement with and connection to their children as well as promoting and increasing their financial support of their children.

Responsibilities and Duties: Provide leadership to and overall management of the Project including supervision of 4 full time and one part-time staffer; as well as interns, volunteers, consultants and workshop leaders. o Specific duties include teaching, staff development, evaluation, and supervision in an inclusive and supportive environment to achieve effective service delivery and outcome attainment/reporting, as well as ensuring outcome-driven processes and maintaining data at project and organizational levels

Provide clinical oversight, service and support to fathers and to Project staff o Specific duties include case conferencing, individual or supervised counseling, group facilitation of fatherhood curricula, and maintaining a reduced caseload

Provide leadership in Responsible Fatherhood among colleagues, organizations and advocacy groups at a local and national level around Responsible Fatherhood, particularly as it impacts vulnerable communities. o Specific duties include serving as liaison to key funders and other service organizations, participating in city-wide initiatives to promote responsible fatherhood, and performing outreach in the community

Work with agency leadership to integrate Responsible Fatherhood services and advocacy as a component of our mission and to leverage resources on behalf of fathers and families in vulnerable communities. o Specific duties include collaborating with agency leadership, participating in strategy sessions, and brainstorming and championing ways to integrate with other program services

Qualifications and Experience:

  • LCSW Required, SIFI Certified preferred
  • 2 to 5 years experience in a responsible capacity or leadership / supervisory role
  • Effective Case Management, Group Work, Program Development and Advocacy Assistance skills
