PETA - Intake Specialist
Position Objectives:
To assess and handle inquiries from the general public relating to domestic animal and wildlife cruelty issues
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Evaluate incoming telephone calls and e-mails and provide the required responses or refer callers to the appropriate staff members
- Provide research support to cruelty caseworkers on miscellaneous animal cruelty and neglect issues
- Handle animal cruelty and neglect cases
- Maintain confidential files, correspondence files, case reports, and other departmental reports
- Handle Community Animal Project calls and check in surrendered animals
- Train staff members on administrative tasks and use of the departmental database
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- Degree in a related field or a minimum of two years of casework experience
- Proven animal-handling skills and willingness to obtain euthanasia certification
- Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
- Proven ability to make sound decisions in crisis situations
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgments
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- Proven excellent writing and research skills
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. drivers' license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
- Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues
- Commitment to the objectives of the organization
