City of Hope, one of only 40 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers nationwide and a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, is seeking a Director of Prospect Management and Development Research. This position is part of City of Hope’s Prospect Research Office located in downtown Los Angeles, and reports to the Associate Vice President of Principal Gifts (AVP). This position will work closely with colleagues on the research team as well as within Philanthropy and External Relations as a whole and, as appropriate, with the broader City of Hope community as we seek philanthropic support to fulfill City of Hope’s bold mission.
Responsibilities:

Redesign and implement a prospect management and tracking system using Blackbaud’s Enterprise CRM product
-
Analyze and balance development officers’ prospect portfolios
-
Work with fundraising staff as an internal consultant, defining overall prospect managing and tracking needs and guide team to meet those needs

Liaise with development officers on a regular basis to provide moves management feedback
-
Create and produce periodic management metrics reports (e.g. aging reports, pipeline metrics)

Utilize analytics and data mining techniques to identify and segment new prospects for further research

Help plan, coordinate, and manage departmental projects including, but not limited to preparing general prospect lists, designing qualification reports, electronic screenings (e.g., Blackbaud Wealthpoint) and data analysis

Lead educational sessions focused on prospect management PMATS and development research for fundraising staff and co-chairing prospect review meetings

Respond in a timely manner to inquiries about prospects and when appropriate prepare concise, formatted written reports that illuminate a prospect’s career background, financial assets, potential for philanthropic support, and City of Hope affiliations

Familiarity with City of Hope external events, and the ability to suggest opportunities for beneficial prospect involvement

Collaborate with other members of our Office of Philanthropy and External Relations (Planned Giving, Major Gifts, Foundation Relations, Industry and Corporate Relations, and Principal Gifts)

Follow and help further develop “best practices” in prospect research for City of Hope

Perform special research projects and other duties as assigned by the AVP
Qualifications:
-
Seven or more years’ experience in direct prospect research, tracking, data analysis, or related development field experience or a combination of institutional development experience is highly desirable, preferably within an academic, medical, or major research institution

Bachelors Degree

Demonstrated experience implementing and managing a prospect management and tracking system

Demonstrated experience collaborating with development officers on portfolio evaluations

Demonstrated experience producing management metrics reports

Demonstrated ability to work independently, set priorities, and complete projects within specified timeframes

Ability to deal with confidential matters with tact and sensitivity

Excellent written communication skills for preparation of detailed analytical reports and briefings for use by institution leadership

Demonstrated familiarity with industry-standard sources of data (e.g. LexisNexis, Dataquick, SEC, Hoovers, BoardEx, Zillow, wealthscreening data)
