Science Friday Initiative - Grants Manager
The Grants Manager is responsible for the identification, solicitation, management, and reporting of grants. Responsibilities will focus mainly on private (corporate and foundation) grant writing and management, but may also include government (federal, state, and city) grant writing and management. Candidates with experience in Government fundraising and applications are strongly encouraged to apply. This position will be responsible for managing all phases of the grant-writing and reporting process, managing the stewardship of certain donors, and working with the development team to execute Science Friday’s fundraising strategy. This position is focused on grant management, including grant writing. The ideal candidate will have excellent project management skills, a keen eye for detail, a clear writing style, and a natural understanding of context. The Grants Manager will report to either the Director of Development or the Executive Director.
Responsibilities
Manage each phase of the grant-writing and reporting process, including:

Planning and writing targeted letters of inquiry, proposals, and follow up documents, including final and interim reports

Devising customized fundraising budgets for proposal and report submissions

Ongoing grant research to help identify prospective funders and assist with the development of strategies to acquire new funding
Support ongoing donor outreach, and stewardship:

Directly managing relationships with many institutional funders to ensure effective stewardship

Working with the Director of Development to devise strategy and tactics for appeals and prospect cultivation

Work with staff to develop effective donor communication, such as letters of inquiry, project summaries, case statements, stewardship reports, promotional materials, direct mail, invitations, web content, letters of appreciation and acknowledgement.

Attending meetings with foundation/corporate funders to discuss program/project goals; prepare presentation materials as needed

Engages in effective communications with external constituents

As needed, takes a lead role in the development and execution of donor events
Qualifications
-
3 or more years of professional grantwriting and/or fundraising experience
-
Bachelor’s degree

Superior written skills including the ability to edit for quality and style
-
Track record of successfully identifying and securing foundation grants
-
Ability to assimilate information about Science Friday’s programs from a variety of sources in order to make our documents most persuasive to potential funders

Confidence to meet in person with donors and prospects
-
Commitment to team collaboration and communication

Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and on deadline

Excellent time-management and prioritization skills
-
Understanding of program budgets and financial projections

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the Internet

Knowledge of management database (Convio/Common Ground, Raiser’s Edge)
